On Tap. Very fruity aroma, of raisins/figs. Deep color of russet. Taste is of malt, slight sweetness. Very mellow hop finish. A very satisfying brew.

Bottle- 2003 Vintage (score=2.3). Mega syruppy sweet barlewine. Boot polish aroma, heaps of fruitcake, raisin and figs, very cloying. 2004 vintage on tap@Bridgeport (score=3.5): Sweet caramel and raisin, sweet, but this tap 2004 version was better balanced than the 2003 from the bottle. Re-rate: Bottle- vintage 1997. Really sweet raisiny as usual, but this has developed a toasted character, which is quite nice, kind of like raisin toast, mellowed a bit it and less sweet than when young 3.7 (my score is a rough average of the 3.

Loved this one. Mighty malty - toffee? sure, and more, figs, prunes, whatever it isyou’re pulling from the old jam jar and topping with hops. I like this one and as much as I figured I would hold onto a bottle it looks like I’ve drunk them all. Sigh. Anyone up for a drive?

12 oz brown bottle " No 011" Fred Eckhardt on the label 2003 edition. Lovelly malty aroma mixed with a rather resinous alcohol scent.Prunes and figs come to mind for some reason. Dark amber, almost chesut in apprearance, small white head that dissapears fast..leaving small amount of lace. Taste is chocolate, creamy toffee, rum like, bitter near the end, alcohol is pronounced. Nice on the tongue quite warming going down. I liked this ale..one dimensional maybe but its a bloody good dimension!!

Amber ruby in colour with a medium sized medium lastin gtan head. The nose is sweet malty and suggary. The taste is malty and suggary and heavy with lots of alcohol. The alcohol is just a bit agressive tho.

Garnet with tan head. Nose has hints of fruit, molasses, toffee. Decent body and mouthfeel. Flavor has some sweetness. Caramel. Puts me in mind of another spirit. Maybe a fortified wine like a port. Not bad.
