bottle by way of riversideak... it pours with a dark brownish black body yet it is still dark orange at the edges. a soft hot cocoa colored head sits atop and leaves behind slug-like trails of lacing. the aroma is barrel forward with the porter playing a secondary role... smoke, vinous/grapes/raisins, chocolate, scalded cream, coffee, spice, flowers and cotton candy/vanilla. nice cuvee of flavors and balance of barrels... the palate is so soft while the finish is prickly and acidic. flavors in between of smoky wood, vanilla, dried fruit, vinous/red wine, bittersweet chocolate, barrel spice, roasted malt, coffee and a dry woody finish. the body is on the thin side of medium but creamy carbonation and an acidic feeling more than make up for it. nice! 8/4/8/4/17/4.1

Bomber poured a clear dark brown with a small diminishing brown head. Aromas of oak, vinous notes, cocoa and light roastiness. Palate was light to medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of oak, vinous notes, cocoa and light roastiness with a smooth dry vinous finish. I was disappointed in this one, not much goin on.

DLD Day: Deep brown with a nice frothy head. The aroma has notes of celery, wet grains, plum, band-aid, grape juice and toast... not very appealing honestly. The taste was okay with a roasty malt tone supported by light chocolate, vanilla, and walnut. Some winey and chalky yeast notes also detected. The mouth feel is lively but thin and tinny. BLAH, missing the malt punch expected of strong porters, too much barrel without the oak overtones, how they do that is a true mystery.

22oz bottle, a few months old. Dark brown with a tan head, quickly diminishing. Nose is slightly lactic when cold. When warm there’s a black pepper quality that becomes easier to pick up. The oak is sharp, peppery, a bit charred, a bit tannic. Nice enough smell, nothing spectacular but more than tolerable. Flavor is more black-pepper, smoked malt, charred wood, etc. Slightly astringent, a bit rough, body isn’t all there, it’s a little flabby. But it’s better than your typical robust or imperial porter.

Ok NEVER mind the BEER. THIS has a 3D label, and i was luckily wearing my 3D glasses to the Pre DLD event ... Freaky label ... black ... roast malt nose ... light bitter roast ... quite meaty ... little dry roast ... ok bit just didnt hit that spot.

Courtesy of After4ever, thanks Tom! It is black with a weak, red hue and a creamy head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, oak, light rubber, chocolate and ashes. The flavour is dry and roasted with a light bitterness and notes of oak, ashes, hints of smoke, citrus, wine, tannic acid, and the finish has a dry, light bitterness.

Thanks to Brandon for sending me this bottle! Poured deep brown with a well-retained cap of tan head. The aroma was on the sweet side with toasted nutty and chocolate notes paired with sour vinous and bourbonny character.. not too exciting, but fairly well-balanced. The flavor found sour oak and bourbon notes over semi-sweet, well-roasted chocolate and red grapes.. bitterness was light with earth and coffee responsible.. spicy and warm with bourbon leading through the finish. Medium-plus bodied with a touch more sourness than I wanted on the palate.. decent overall.
