A mild "brown ale" roastiness, and general earthiness bordering on cardboard, shows up in the finish. Bitterness is very light. Sugary nose with a slight caramel aroma. Almost medium bodied, but it is a bit thin overall, and especially so in the finish. Ruddy amber color and fully clear. Off-white head fades to a thin film, but somehow leaves some patches of fairly dense lace behind. Not the greatest beer, but this is generally a boring style in my opinion, and you can do much worse than this amber. drismyhero (815), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 17, 2004 Looks bland somehow. I know that sounds extremely presumptious and uneducated but it really does look bland - light brown with minimal head, yielding no signs of excitement. The aroma is no different, overly smooth boring malt, perhaps a tad smokey. Flavor is a touch bitter, some smoke here too, a little cane sugar. Poor malt profile (although fairly present). Boring, just flat out boring. motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic

The smell was wonderful, inviting, provacative. The deep amber color was beautiful. This is what I’ve been looking for in an amber that has a bit more punch then Fat Tire. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 6, 2004 Bottle Pours a deep redish brown with a nice thick beige head. Fine sheeting lacing as well. Aroma is a woody sweet malt mostly. Not much hops are evident. Flavor is straight forward and simple, sweet malts some dark roast flavors and a thin feel with lazy carbonation. Aftertaste is a wet cardboard woody flavor. Not bad. Hab40oz (242), Grants Pass, Oregon, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 5, 2004 Bright garnet hue is it’s appearance, gifted with a fine, beige head, gently fading to a small ring.
Aroma, hoppy, fruity,(cherries and berries) a bit dry, eventually.
Taste: yup, it has some, but rather mild, ...hops bite for a brief bit, then step back, and it’s all smooth, but also tepid. Very mellow, but also on the side of blase. Zingy taste, for a second, then the body collapses and the finish never shows.
Not bad for just drinkin’...and I’ll leave it at that...
