Commercial Description:
Ropewalk is a mellow, malt-driven amber that dances a subtly sweet line. The balance of Crystal malt with a subtle dose of Northwest hops delivers a refreshing ale that makes for a great session beer. Originally brewed to mark our 20th anniversary, Ropewalk – which literally means “a long narrow building where rope is made” – is a tribute to our building’s roots as a rope factory, while also celebrating feats of daring everywhere.

RopeWalk is a delicious malt accented session brew that has a very pleasing malt aromas and flavors of pale and crystal malts. This beer is of course hopped with some local hop varieties, but unlike many hop charged Amber Ales, this one strikes a nice balance between malt and hop character. At 4.5% abv, it is a perfect session brew, and I enjoyed a few pints of this beer with a great lunch one cool Sunday afternoon in Portland. It is nice to know this beer is available in bottles as well, and can be found in markets where Bridgeport beers are sold. RopeWalk Amber Ale pours to a beautiful, bright, amber color with a nice white head that fades, and a nice bit of carbonation. The nose on this beer is malt accented with aromas of sweet and biscuit malt, and a pleasing back drop of citric hop aroma. The palate is crisp on the tongue with lots of good pale and sweet malt flavor, a hints of lightly buttered toast. RopeWalk finishes with more good malt and toast flavors up front, then ends with a mild citric hop bitterness to balance out the sweetness of this beer. This is an excellent, very drinkable beer, one I enjoyed drinking fresh on draught, and one I would enjoying drinking in its bottled form as well.

This makes for a nice session beer. Had this on tap at the ale room on Hawthorne. Mellow godlen amber color with a brief soda like head, and a refreshing caramel maltiness and honey richness with a slight hop bite in the aftertaste.

Pours a nice deep amber color. Aromas of fruit/malt. Flavor has a nice clean taste, mildly hoppy with some nice malty tones.

Sweet fruit and caramel malt aromas. Good looking red amber with a big head that compresses down to quarter thickness in short order. Sweet fruits int he fore. grape dominates. Then some malt smoothness. Almost marzen like characteristics and every bit as tasty as some of the better marzens.

On tap. Amber colored pour (what an appropriate name!) Pretty mellow aromas of malt and hops. In fact this is a pretty mellow beer over all, not really good but really bad. i would prefer this over macros any day, but not something i would chose again.

Bottle. Pours amber to mahagony with a thin tan head. Sour caramel malt (meal) flavor with hints of banana and sweet fruit hops. Sweet caramel malt and bitter buttery hop flavor. Medium bodied and creamy palate.

Tame. Aroma is vaguely vine fruit, but there’s not a whole lot there. Pours a bit a dark for an amber, and the head was a bit big. Flavor is malty, with the same vine fruit feel. Thick mouthfeel, pretty dense. The second one was a little warmer, and a little better. This is nothing special, but it’s better than most. Not on my list of things to get though.
