Commercial Description:
The pioneering spirit that made us Oregon's Oldest Craft Brewery ® is the inspiration behind our new European inspired big beautiful blonde ale, S?pris. Drawing from our heritage of fine ale craftsmanship, we pursued a fresh flavor direction that would encapsulate our history as well as our vision of bringing the best flavors of the world to your pint glass. S?pris is crafted with European two-row malt to maintain a clean, rich flavor that is delicate and immensely satisfying. The unique blend of hops from Germany, Czech Republic and Slovenia deliver a smooth flavor that contributes to the overall unique balanced dimensions S?pris offers. S?pris is naturally conditioned in the bottle and keg in the BridgePort tradition, and that’s where the similarity to our other beers ends. S?pris brings a distinct experience to the palate with ample effervescence and understated robustness.

On tap at Bridgeport, Portland. Like a Belgian wit with a bit more tangerine, with a passing nod to a tripel. More bananary esters. Nicelemon. Good wit, full of flavour, but still that clean feel. Flavours are intense too. Lovely

(Bottle, courtesy of Reid) Pours a cloudy yellow body with a moderate creamy egg-white head. Aroma of bready malts, lots of banana, and clove. Flavor of malt, mild floral hops, wheat, clove and a bit soapy in the finish. Creamy mouthfeel. Fairly blan.

Chromate yellow, chill haze; no head. Bit of glue, gassy nose and some pale malts. Slightly toasted notes in the taste above the pale malts, cereals and pineapple-ish retronasal - or is that the contrast with the other beers in this area? Slightly burning MF, but especially very fizzy, oversaturated feel. Strange - another one I don’t dig the intention of. IMO useless, but I seem to be in a minority (WBC medal winner...)

Has a nice glowing murky yellow color, smells of semi-sour brett and wheat, flavor is somewhat light, lacking depth. The astringency and bitterness does not exactly fit with this beer, I was thinking it was close to Leffe Blond, but the bitterness or huskyness puts it off a little bit. Interesting, but could be much better. Why not just brew a saison?

Pours a lightly hazy blonde color with a quickly dissipating head and no lacing. Moderate carbonation. The nose is light with some pilsner malts, yeasty esters and light spicy citrus notes. The flavor is zesty with some yeast and spice but has a musky wheat or pale malt quality in the mouthfeel. The hops overall are just right, complimenting everything without being too upfront. In the PNW, hops are usually a side dish, not a spice. This is different for a change, which I like. The body is moderate for the style and overall a decent attempt at an american belgian ale. I could drink more of these.

Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is hazy medium yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (herbs, flowers), lightly to moderately yeasty (mold, wet cement), with a note of lemon zest. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, yeasty. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. About as dull and simple a rendition as you’ll find. Not bad, just devoid of anything remotely interesting or alluring.
