downender (1616), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England Jul 10, 2007 Cask-conditioned at the Robin Hoods retreat, Bristol, 10/7/07. A special to mark the end of smoking in pubs. Amber coloured with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma was of hay and biscuit malt with the faintest whiff of smoke. In the mouth it started slightly sweet before the smokiness kicked in. This was a subtle flavour of smoked ham, like a subdued version of Spezial Rauchbier. A good English version of the style, but if BBF had been braver and adopted the style wholeheartedly, it could have been great.
