Good retention. The aroma is DFH 90 Minute IPA-ish.... fruity and citrusy with just a little evergreen. Well-hopped, but balanced flavor with notes of pineapple and a nice, malt backbone. A touch salty. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Medium bitter finish with more subtle salt at the wee end. Thanks go out to artusory for sharing his bottle of this! ryan (1781), Beltsville, Maryland, USA

Clear amber body with a big off-white head. Lasting cover. The aroma is caramel and loaded with pine and grapefruit. Fantastic fresh hop nose. The flavor is caramel and fresh citrus, a bit aggressive at first, but mellows out as it warms. Medium body, slightly chewy with a bitter, slightly astringent finish. argo0 (7027), Washington DC, USA

Balance is obviously a word this brewer has yet to discover, because this is a beer that is all bite -- but little else. No doubt, this brew will leave you stupified. For one, it smells amazing. Wow, floral hops and citrus just burst out of the glass. But, I saw little to no head, and the color was a little murky. The first taste is wonderful, followed by a complete burst of pure alcohol. It’s as if I was biting down on a piece of hop gum, with a liquid inside of everclear. That, my friends equals an ultimate let down. I wish brewers would stop making strong beers, just because they can. Doesn’t always mean it’s good. The bums in my neighborhood would go crazy for this one! krisbierjaeger (844), dolores, Colorado, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 8, 2006 this is a barley wine to the bone-- this is so strong i drank it and my SISTER in massachusetts coped a buzz. wow. it’s an incandescent copper, like a penny about to be liquified by a blow torch. a thin head scuds over the surface like threadbare clouds wincing under a parching sun. the aroma is at once as hard as body-armor, gossamer as lingerie. a delicate slightly sour citrus peel is grated into a oily pulp, while the alcohol is as solid and imposing as a battleship gun turret. nice and strong. (i let my trained beer-sniffer dog snorky have a go at it, and he promptly keeled over and temporarily had his feet in the air and little cartoon ’x’s over his eyes). very rich hop jelly aerates over a cauldron of steaming caramel, with as always an overlord of alcohol. sweet with sassy carbonation, the hops bite fast and hard, leaving a numbing venom of bitterness and tongue-numbing potency. in short, you provide the ass, it kicks it-- pleasantly so. Poured a very dark amber with a white head. Aroma of bubble gum, cinnamon, with some bitter pine and grass hops. Flavor is pine hops and sweet caramel. The malt profile in this is way too strong in my opinion. We had to try this side-by-side with their barley wine to make sure they weren’t the same beer.
