FlacoAlto (2142), Tucson, Arizona, USA Aug 30, 2008 Pours into my 25cl tulip glass with a frothy, one-finger thick, amber tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a dark red tinged, brown color that shows a brilliantly clear, cranberry-juice red color when held up to the light. The aroma is quite fruity with a backdrop of toasted malt and a light nuttiness. Bright berry and some sweet citrus notes are backed by an herbal, light pine hop character. The hop notes and fruit aromatics play the lead role in the aroma, but there is some malt character that comes in towards the finish with some lightly toasted, cracker like notes a light toasted nuttiness and even something that seems like musty malt.
Lightly sweet tasting up front, this quickly moves to a mix of hoppy spruce tip flavors with notes of grapefruit, some bright berry notes and pine as well as a lightly astringent, herbal bitterness that lingers on in the finish. A touch of nutty toasted malt and some caramel sweetness comes through in the finish as well. The malt character does contribute quite a bit of body and heft; this is a bit viscous and definitely clings to the mouth a bit with some sticky malt character.
Surprisingly hoppy, actually the malt clearly takes a back seat in this beer, which is a bit disappointing in a Nut Brown, but certainly doesn’t keep this from being tasty. This is tasty, but it certainly could be quite a bit more complex if the hops were dialed back just a bit and the malt was more of an interesting focus. lb4lb (1453), Austin, Texas, USA Aug 15, 2008 Updated: Aug 16, 2008Pours a clearish reddish brown color with short lived beige head. Smell is mostly fruity malt with some light toasty, nutty malt too. Taste is slightly nutty and fruity, but thin, and not a very good example of the style. Thin body as well. Headbanger (1001), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jan 28, 2008 22oz bomber(courtesy of RSRIZZO)-A dark brown body with a decent tan head that dissipated into a small covering over the beer. Aroma of malty sweetness and that about it. Taste on this medium to full bodied brew comes across with faint malt that grows stronger throughout the mouthful and ends with a nutty taste. Definitely hides the alcohol very well. I think a great tasting beer. Another great brew from Bristol. packmatt (3), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA does not count Dec 30, 2007 Great beer, would like to see it picked up as a regular at Bristol. seems that it sold out way too fast. BDR (1929), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Nov 23, 2007 dDark brown body with brownish head. A nutty characteristic on the malty nose. A little pine on the finish and faint chocolate and nuts on the lightly roasted malt body.
