Commercial Description:
Cheyenne Cañon Ale, the latest incarnation of the ever-popular Piñon Nut Brown, will be released Friday, July 6th. This year’s batch is a beauty. With malty sweetness up front, and a hint of nutty fruit in the finish, it’s a smooth, velvety ale that hides its higher-than-usual 6.9% ABV. Best of all, it feels as good as it tastes because 100% of the profits from the sale of each bottle or pint will be donated by Bristol to the Friends of Cheyenne Cañon, a volunteer organization dedicated to preserving the natural resources of North Cheyenne Cañon Park.

I’ve long heard the stories of the seasonal release of the rare pinon nut brown ale that poured at the brewery but nowhere else and behold a bottle appeared on the shelves. chestnut pour with very thin head. nutty, caramel, light dark fruits, coffee and toffee aroma. light body and a bit thin. flavor is solid and enjoyable. sweet and toasted. they could take this one to another level.

22 oz. bottle. Vintage 2009. Pours a thin non lasting head over a clear medium brown (SRM 28) body.....nose is light coffee, cocoa, bit of hop....taste is initially sweet malts, then coffee/chocolate finishing with mild hop bitterness which lingered with the roasted malts, and a suggestion of nuttiness....mouth feel is light and somewhat watery, carbonation average. This is a somewhat light take on a Nut Brown.

Bomber. Pours clear brown with light tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel, nuts, and some light chocolate. Flavor is roasted malt, caramel, toffee, nuttiness and some chocolate. Looks thin but mouthfeel holds up. Has a nice sweetness. Solid brown ale.

Pours into my 25cl tulip glass with a frothy, one-finger thick, amber tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a dark red tinged, brown color that shows a brilliantly clear, cranberry-juice red color when held up to the light. The aroma is quite fruity with a backdrop of toasted malt and a light nuttiness. Bright berry and some sweet citrus notes are backed by an herbal, light pine hop character. The hop notes and fruit aromatics play the lead role in the aroma, but there is some malt character that comes in towards the finish with some lightly toasted, cracker like notes a light toasted nuttiness and even something that seems like musty malt.

Lightly sweet tasting up front, this quickly moves to a mix of hoppy spruce tip flavors with notes of grapefruit, some bright berry notes and pine as well as a lightly astringent, herbal bitterness that lingers on in the finish. A touch of nutty toasted malt and some caramel sweetness comes through in the finish as well. The malt character does contribute quite a bit of body and heft; this is a bit viscous and definitely clings to the mouth a bit with some sticky malt character.

Surprisingly hoppy, actually the malt clearly takes a back seat in this beer, which is a bit disappointing in a Nut Brown, but certainly doesn’t keep this from being tasty. This is tasty, but it certainly could be quite a bit more complex if the hops were dialed back just a bit and the malt was more of an interesting focus.

Pours a clearish reddish brown color with short lived beige head. Smell is mostly fruity malt with some light toasty, nutty malt too. Taste is slightly nutty and fruity, but thin, and not a very good example of the style. Thin body as well.

22oz bomber(courtesy of RSRIZZO)-A dark brown body with a decent tan head that dissipated into a small covering over the beer. Aroma of malty sweetness and that about it. Taste on this medium to full bodied brew comes across with faint malt that grows stronger throughout the mouthful and ends with a nutty taste. Definitely hides the alcohol very well. I think a great tasting beer. Another great brew from Bristol.

Great beer, would like to see it picked up as a regular at Bristol. seems that it sold out way too fast.
