Commercial Description:
Cheyenne Cañon Ale, the latest incarnation of the ever-popular Piñon Nut Brown, will be released Friday, July 6th. This year’s batch is a beauty. With malty sweetness up front, and a hint of nutty fruit in the finish, it’s a smooth, velvety ale that hides its higher-than-usual 6.9% ABV. Best of all, it feels as good as it tastes because 100% of the profits from the sale of each bottle or pint will be donated by Bristol to the Friends of Cheyenne Cañon, a volunteer organization dedicated to preserving the natural resources of North Cheyenne Cañon Park.

Bomber. Pours dark brown with a foamy white head. Smells of caramel, nutty, earthy. Tastes of pepper, some resiny hints, pine nuts, some floral hints. Balanced and enjoyable.

2007 edition (Cheyenne Cañon bottle). Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium brown. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel, nuts, wort), lightly hoppy (flowers, resin), lightly yeasty (dough), with a hint of smoke. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation. Ho-hum this year...sweet and just a little bit raw/worty.

Draught. Pours mahagony nut brown with a small tan rocky head and faint spotty-lined lacing. Aroma is earthy yeast (dust, musty) and caramel malt (toasted grain, meal). Milk chocolate, caramel malt sweet sugary start, smooth creamy body, no acidity and bitterness, nutty throughout. Medium bodied and creamy, smooth palate.

Draft at The Falling Rock in Denver. Poured a clear dark brown color with orange highlights. Head was off white. Smelled of chocolate and a #2 pencil. Toffee and toasted bread aromas also came out as it warmed up a bit. Slightly sweet on the tongue with a definite roasty/smoky note. Makes me wonder if the nuts were roasted before they were added. There were also hints of brown sugar, bacon, and molasses. Not bad. Nice to try a brown ale with a little something-something.

Bottle: Copperish amber pour with an off white thin head. Sweet nutty aroma with a vague grainy character. Light body and mild flavor with a touch of fruity esters. Grainy nutty notes with a very mild hop presence (hardly detectable). Lacking the malt depth/nuance that makes a good Brown Ale. A bit too simple.

Pretty nutty aroma. The flavor is lighter than most nut browns but is also better in that regard. Really easy drinking.
