It has a malty smell that seems pretty nondescript. The flavor seems right in line for the style but subtle. Malty, a little bit of smokiness but not overpowering like some Scottish ales I’ve had. Very easy to drink and I could probably have had more than one of these in a session.

Flavor is about the same. Mouthfeel is grainy and dirty and none too nice. Still a ok Scottish drjay44 (802), Salida, Colorado, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 30, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Pours a pleasant light tan head, over a clear body.....nose primarily light malts....tastes almost entirely of malt layers, with a bit of bitter towards the finish, pleasant, not really sweet, not complex, mouthfeel light to medium. Lack of complexity in the malt back bone is its weakness. Beardface (1032), Eugene, Oregon, USA

Surprised to find it this lowly rated as I enjoyed it immensely when I was out there. Of course I was stoned out of my gourd the whole time... pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA

Clear brown amber with some decent head. Smell is super light dough. Flavor is strange funky sweet that isn’t very appetizing. Low to medium carbonation. Not great. Not horrid. ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 8, 2008 Draft at Falling Rock. Huge foamy tan head, body is the color of dark purple/brown and mostly clear with red light at the bottom. Carbonation is far too high, and the body on this beer is far too weak. Has a distinct note of diacetyl, some mild, buttery scotch and some pale and pallid herbal spices. Vegetal at times, very pale and bland with a thin texture. Disappointing. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 4, 2008 This comes out of the tap a rich mahogany brown with a fine-bubbled head. Aroma is strong, spicy, malty, with a hint of hops. Flavor is rich and smooth, with hints of hops, caramel, smoke and cloves; the sweet nicely balances the hop bitterness. It goes down lively and sassy. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 30, 2008 Pours a clear maroon color with a light beige head. Smell is malty, perhaps tart and caramelly. Taste is smooth, malty, lightly creamy and faintly peaty. Creamy, soft body with light carbonation. Decent for the style, but I don’t typically care much for it.
