Poured a darker amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of peat, bread, light smoke and light caramel. Tastes of caramel, nuts, lightly roasted malts, and had a lighter earthiness to it. Tastes on the weaker side compared to the aromas (somewhat of a let down). Lacing left on the glass. He’s a great companion to have around while lounging in the living room, is respectfully cleaner than, say, a porcine selection for a pet, and is affectionate. Sure, the means by which he communicates may be blunt. They may even be feral, but he’s genuinely loving. The dog in my apartment is altruistically kind, a bit rough, sometimes a tad heavy, but nice to have around for any occasion. Well there, I’ve summed up the Laughing Lab too. Its color reminds me of the back of our Labrador’s mouth, though the smell is infinitely better. On a range between Ian (the dog’s) case of canine halitosis and “infinitely better” I settle the Laughing Lab at a firm 6, which means it’s okay, but nothing that makes for goose bumps. It’s neutral, eking out some mealy vapors, maybe some non-descript grains. The taste is this dog’s day, starting casually with a very neutral and cool entrance to the oral cavity, and concludes with a soothing and relaxing finish of fulfilling chocolate, molasses, caramel and the malts flavor without the coffee. It’s a comfortable beer, turning up the volume on its intensity at a subtle peace. It’s also easy drinking, giving the drinker an affordable comfort and peace of mind. It’s the same for any avid dog owner. To know that, outside, people are frustrated with their everyday lives, and tomorrow you will be too. But petting a dog, an act so simple, whisks that all away for a brief moment. That’s the Laughing Lab. Crit (2416), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 9, 2005 Strong aroma of burnt malts that overpowers everything else if there is anything else. The flavor reveals sweet malts, but like the aroma, the dominant flavor is burnt malts which I didn’t find particularly enjoyable. Some bitterrness in the aftertaste. jcwattsrugger (5582), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 31, 2005 Sampled from a bottle that was filled the 2nd week of July, this beer pours to a moderate bubbly/creamy tan head atop a brassy red/amber body. It laces well, despite the head going away to a thin presence. The aroma is bready and earthy with some peat. Sweet. A touch light. The flavor is really nice. Sweet malted oak doused in peat and milk chocolate with pecans. Some grassy hops. The palate is medium bodied but nothing spectacular.
