Commercial Description:
Our biggest beer by far, Old No. 23 revives an English farmhouse brewery tradition of making a strong ale to set aside for special occasions. Our version, while tedious and time-consuming to brew, rewards the connoisseur with an ale that has the depth and complexity of a good brandy or single malt scotch. Massive quantities of malt and hops, a long aging time and limited availability make this a special ale worthy of its reputation.

Vintage 2005. A hazy amber beer with a thin orange head. The aroma is sweet hoppy - Cascade giving it notes of grapefruit, but also with strong notes of alcohol and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with lots of caramel notes, but also a strong alcohol note, which lends the beer a metallic tinge. Toward the end the alcohol leaves a slight burn on the tongue and in the top of the throat.

Hazy, burnt orange colored ale with a very small, creamy, off-white head. The nose is of caramel, chocolate and red apple. Woodsy and nutty. The flavor is sweet and malty and a bit astringent with an abundance of hops for balance. Chocolate notes. Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Lengthy, bitter, chocolatey finish.
