DLD via sprinkle: Black inky and oily appearance, small lasting frothy head, very good lace. The aroma has notes of molasses, city + coffee, plum, tobacco, chocolate, oak, floral hops and a hint of peat moss. The taste is chewy malts and dark fruits with a noticeable soy sauce undertones, tobacco and boozy too. The coffee notes and earthy peat character upon the finish does help round the palate a great deal. The mouth feel is oily and lush with a warming finish, could be a bit heavier in the body however. Not too bad considering the source.

Bottle at DLD 09 ... Deep black ... roast malt nose some dark fruit ... deep solid roast malt ... quite rich ... little toffee ...

Thanks to Mike for sharing this gem! Poured near black with a fine cap of dark brown head. The aroma picked up rich dark chocolates, molasses, and treacle with a warm, roasty imprint.. smelled like it had a little age to it (maybe slight oxidation?). The flavor department is really where this struck gold.. coffee and lesser dark chocolate provided most of the base with oak and vanilla laced throughout.. toasty with a long, succulent finish. Heavier-bodied with a little bit of sourness (oak-inspired) that helped out on the palate.. a bit hot, but well-received.

3rd rating, a special hand bottle from the brewer to sprinkle to me, shared with hopfully enough peopele to get this beer official. Pousr blackish with a tan ring. Nose is sweet coffee. And some pumpernickle bread, if you haven’t try it and expand the color spectrum of your bread. Taste is sweet and rich and smoky, rich and nice. Yes this is good, good enough for people to recognize broad ripple with some quality.

Hand bottle from sprinkle shared by Odeed. Thanks Mike and Jake! Very dark cherry brown with a slight ring of bubbles. Nose is very much more fruity than I am used to in ISs. It is like chocolate raspberries, caramel, and prunes. Flavor is chocolate, pepperiness, alcohol, dark fruit, and light bitterness. Finish lightly bitter.

Had some from the kegged batch at the 2009 State Fair. Pitch body with a short tan ring for a head. Dark chocolate with fruity accents. Roast with a touch of molasses and creamy earth. Fullish body, nice and thickish. Alcohol is a bit out of control, though I’d probably still have guessed under ten. Few stale notes - was this slightly oxidized?

Thanks ucusty for sharing this one. Pours a dark black with some light and a one finger light tan head. The nose is sharp, smells of fruit skins, sweet, acetaldehyde? Not sure what was going on in the flavor or aroma. Had a tartness to it that I couldn’t figure the origin of. Tastes of mothballs, roasty, some astringency. Not too hot on this one.
