kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 26, 2009 Growler, via StFun. Pours a clear dark brown body with a one finger fizzy beige head that faded quickly. The nose is clean with some chocolate, coffee and roasted notes. The flavor is much the same, a nice balance between the roast and chocolate with a minimal bitterness on the back end to keep it from being too sweet. Some lightly roasted coffee as well. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with soft fizzy carbonation. Pretty good, I was able to drink a whole growler over an entire evening and I didn’t get tired of it at all. shawnm213 (841), South Bend, Indiana, USA Jun 11, 2009 draft at brewpub. pours dark brown with a tan head. notes of roasted matls, bitter chocolate , and coffee. pretty good! kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Apr 13, 2009

StFun (535), Indiana, USA Apr 7, 2009 Pours an inky black with a red hue when held to the light. No head, but some minimal lacing. Aroma is a nice mixture of chocolate and hops, but just too faint. Flavor is slightly bitter, with bakers chocolate, yeast, and roasted grain making up the bulk of the flavor. Some metallic hop notes as well. Flavorful. tjthresh (1740), Greenfield, Indiana, USA Feb 14, 2009 Pour is pitch black and pours with no head. Nose is a bit more than mild chocolate. The flavor is a bit more chocolate. Seems to have some herbal hops as well. Med bod but that seem thick for the style. Really pretty good but seems more porterish.
Tmoney99 (4649), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Feb 12, 2009 Draft sample at IBG Winterfest 2009.
Poured hazy brown with an average creamy light brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Solid roasted malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy balanced flavor with a smooth mdium bittersweet finish of moderate duration.
My expectations where met with a good German black beer. patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 18, 2009 tap at the brewpub - Pours very dark brown with a thin tan head.
