drowland (1337), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 14, 2009 Had this on tap at the brewpub but was in town for a wedding with a lot of family and didn’t take good tasting notes beyond the numbers. EithCubes (2139), Indiana, USA Jul 12, 2009 Rating number 2050 for me, from cask at the brewpub. Pitch pour with a miscegenated, swirling tan and light brown head. Light roast and sour malt nose. Chocolate and basic roast taste. Watery body. No wood but light body. standard, smooth-bodied porter, not aggressive. StFun (535), Indiana, USA Mar 4, 2009 Nice local offering. Soft and creamy, but just a tad thin. Aroma is slightly off, but this is a very sessionable porter. Hints of chocolate, cream and dough. Touches of dark fruits. Not too shabby. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 7, 2008 Objectively speaking:
The other cask-conditioned beer during my visit to Broad Ripple.
I like:
Fruit-oriented flavour profile is a nice change of pace from the frequent roast overdose. Though you can capt coffee and chocolate, figs, raisin and blueberries are more likely culprits. Soft palate all throughout.
I dislike:
Not very appealing coke-colour with fading head. Sweeter than I’d like and perhaps overly timid on the hops for a malt-focused beast who is already timid on the roast. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Oct 6, 2008 Cask pour. Black with a fleeting tan head. Mild aroma is roasted blackened malts. Light/medium body. Decent flavors of blackened malts with some mocha coffee. Finishes nicely dry and bitter. Not too bad. nimbleprop (819), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA May 28, 2008 Growler from cask at the brewpub. Pours a translucent, slightly watery, dark brownish black with zero head. Smells sweet with malt, some toasted, roast malts but not a whole lot else. Flavor is watery coffee, toast, bread and a little milk chocolate. Light, watery mouthfeel, very little lasting anything. A big miss. krautdog (15), Gimmelstümph, Germany Apr 8, 2008 I had this from a cask at the brewpub, served in an imperial pint glass. Nice color and a aroma, chocolate/coffee taste. The body was a bit on the thin side but overall, a solid porter.
Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Oct 19, 2007 Sampler on cask at the brewpub. Pours a deep brown with just a touch of light able to pass through and a thin tan head capping the surface. The nose is a blend of roasted malt and weak coffee. Medium-bodied, yet fairly thin on cask, it has a nice roasted finish that lingers a bit. The flavor is of roasted malt, cocoa and mildly fruity hops. A pretty decent porter, but like the Dual Citizenship, I think it would be better with more carbonation.
