The other cask-conditioned beer during my visit to Broad Ripple.
I like:
Fruit-oriented flavour profile is a nice change of pace from the frequent roast overdose. Though you can capt coffee and chocolate, figs, raisin and blueberries are more likely culprits. Soft palate all throughout.
I dislike:
Not very appealing coke-colour with fading head. Sweeter than I’d like and perhaps overly timid on the hops for a malt-focused beast who is already timid on the roast. Cornfield (4972), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 22, 2007 Growler of Cask Conditioned Ale: Pours a deep mahogany body with ruby highlights and some bubbles instead of a head. The nose gains in complexity as it warms. It begins with an aroma of roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, and some coffee grounds. Later dark red cherries and a drop of vanilla are added, followed by alcohol and a soft woody smokiness. It’s a tad thin yet still manages to blend all elements of the nose into a tasy drink. Oddly (considering the abv), there’s a bit of a boozey feel to the Porter in both aroma and flavor. Not bad.

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 22, 2005 Sampler draft at Broad Ripple. Dark brown color with a medium head that diminished quickly. Moderate aroma of chocolate and coffee. Medium body with a smooth watery texture. Well balanced porter flavor similar to aroma with a short finish. BBB63 (4271), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jun 20, 2004 Draft at Fest: Near opaque with fizzy tan head and minimum lace. The aroma has notes of roasted and nutty malts, mocha, biscuit and bready, floral hops. The taste starts with a twangy and fruity hop character on top of a large dose of chocolate malt. Chalky, coffee, and nutty on the finish. The feel was fizzy and thin. This beer is okay but needs better mouthfeel and depth, more like a sweet stout than a porter. thedm (3836), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/20 | Dec 27, 2005 This draft brew from the brewery poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized mostly lasting light brown colored bubbles that left behind an unnoted lacing. The body contained average carbonation, was transparent and dark ruby red brown in color. Its aroma contained notes of mild coffee brown malt . Its mouth feel is initially flat with a lingering flat palate and a mild malt aftertaste. Its flavor was very thin and not worth describing. A poor Porter. hotstuff (3181), Indiana, USA

Small tan head with sparse lacing, fine-small sized bubbles, transparent, no visible carbonation, and a red brown hue. Aroma was malty and chocolate and some roastiness. Flavor was malty, chocolate and coffee. Smooth, watery, thin mouthfeel. EithCubes (2169), Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Jul 12, 2009 Rating number 2050 for me, from cask at the brewpub. Pitch pour with a miscegenated, swirling tan and light brown head. Light roast and sour malt nose. Chocolate and basic roast taste. Watery body. No wood but light body. standard, smooth-bodied porter, not aggressive. patrick767 (2051), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 7, 2006 Updated: Jan 18, 2009draft - Smells very mildly of roast malt with a hint of coffee. The flavor is dark roast malts and coffee. There’s a medium body and a dry finish. It’s okay for the style.
rerate, cask pour from the brewpub - It looks great as a good cask pour so often does. The dark body and creamy head are most appetizing. Chocolate malt and some light hops join for a well-rounded flavor in this very enjoyable brew. It’s a major improvement over last time I had it. 7/4/8/4/15. Averaged the scores in my rating above...
