Sweet malty, fruity aroma and flavor with lots of yeast. A bit thin I think, but still very soft. A bit dry in the end. Rastacouere (5553), Montréal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 28, 2005 Charming deep copper, lasting off-white head. Nose reminiscent of a belgian scotch ale through its slightly smoky edges, earthy fruits (dates, raisins) and estery (bananas) aromas. Interesting spicy yeastiness. Dry chocolate cookie flavors. Somehow peppery yeastiness. Well blended elements, takes some time to evaluate as the flavors are really merged up. Moderately high carbonation, satisfying medium body. Another good belgian from brooklyn. Belgo (145), Køge, Denmark

The aroma consists of fresh plums and a bit of oriental spices. On the palate it is fullbodied and soft with a warming alcoholic snap at the end. Garrett Oliver told me, that the yeast used was the same as Chimay, but that this beer was fermented at 20 degrees celcius whereas Chimay ferments at close to 30 degrees celcius. Probably because of this fact, this beer does have som aromatic elements in common with Chimay, but it doesn’t have the burnt character of the latter. Good one. beeryum (652), Norcross, Georgia, USA

Although I have written notes on this beer from when I first tasted it a couple months ago, I recently had it again, and my recent tasting does not quite match those notes. So this is more along the recent tasting. Nice dark ruddy brown. Huge earthy-fruit and spicy Belgian yeast aroma. Lots more dark fruits in the flavor. My original notes indicate a very large alcohol presense, but I didnt get nearly that in the recent tasting. Could be that it has mellowed. Could be that I was drunk. Good beer tho. Dominating yeast aroma with sweet toffee and spicy hints. Lots of yeast and fruit such as orange and pineapple in the flavor with a sharp and dry mouthfull (or is it just my mouth beeing sore after 3 days of heavy drinking?!). Flavorfull.
