Commercial Description:
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

A black colored beer, with a thick foamy brown head. The aroma of sweet chocolate with coffee and fruits. The taste is sweet of some dark fruits, with coffee and pure bitter chocolate and mocca. The aftertaste of bitter chocolate with hints of sweet.

12 oz bottle pours jet black with little mocha head. chocolate, dark roasted oatmeal, molasses and hints of cherry on the nose. Great deep dark roasted chocolate sweetness with a bitter mocha finish. Very full bodied and silky mouthfeel. Fantastic brew!

Delicious- very focused dark chocolate flavor, direct and surprisingly smooth. a little bit of an alcohol sting that I like. Consistency is a little thin, tho. Bottle from Quick Stop in Coral Gables, Florida.

Draught house! The bartender was only supposed to serve me 10oz... I’ve been blessed with a full pint.  Must be a high gravity! Looks thick and black and.... Delicious.  Dense head and soapy lacing.  Aroma of roasted malt & chocolate.  Tastes like a semi-imperial stout.  Not too alcoholic, but present nonetheless.  Very sweet in the mouth, but not as much on the tongue, much like molasses.  Slightly dry finish.  Wow, very nice lacing.  Not too heavy, very enjoyable.  I’d like to see this in a bottle but it probably wouldnt be the dame. A little bitter on the finish, yet very clean.

12 oz. bottle from Total Wine in Chesapeake (Winter ’09-10 version). Black pour with a luxurious thick tan head. Rich chocolate and light coffee aroma with just a hint of dark fruit. Light sourness upfront that quickly fades into dark chocolate. Creamy mouthfeel; moderate alcohol burn. A very, very good Imperial Stout and probably the best Brooklyn beer. (As a side note from previous tastings, this beer ages very well. While it is not as good after about 2 years it is exceptional after about 5).

Pours a very deep black color, a very thick cream, tan head. Aroma is slightly sour, light chocolate, some sweet prune. Flavor starts off slightly sour, moves into a quick dark chocolate flavor and ends with a modest amount of burn, coffee flavor. A modest thickness, a good lacing and low carbonation overall. Overall a decent brew with a semi-sweet flavor and good amount of density.

12 oz. bottle, bottled Winter 07-08, pours a thick black tar color with a finger of frothy, tan-mocha colored head that leaves a delicate, sparse lacing. Aroma is of a vanilla malt, rich with roasted cocoa bean undertones. Front palate is of alcohol, but not nearly as much as I’d anticipated given the ABV. This melts into a creamy middle of milk chocolate and a bittersweet finish. The palate is very complex - too complex for me to pick out a lot of specifics - but delicious nonetheless. By far, this is my favorite higher ABV beer. Nice medium body, flavorful yet not too overwhelming. I’d love to make this into a vanilla-bean float or serve it with a caramel chocolate lava cake ala mode. Much better quality (IMO) than the Shenandoah Chocolate Donut beer (my previous chocolate fave).

Very mild but nice aroma. Pours with a nice tight creamy head. Looks great in the glass! The taste is great and exactly what one would expect, the finish is long and ends with an unpleasant alcoholic after-taste. At 10% ABV it isn’t surprising the alcohol comes through. Will buy again.
