Commercial Description:
This is the famous Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, our award-winning rendition of the Imperial Stout style once made exclusively for Catherine the Great. We use three mashes to brew each batch of this beer, achieving a luscious deep dark chocolate flavor through a blend of specialty roasted malts. We brew it every year for the winter season. It is delicious when newly bottled, but also ages beautifully for years.

09-10 bottle. Pour is black with a thin brown head. Aroma is coffee, blackberry, toffee, dried fruits, light smoke, roasted malt, and a hint of alcohol. Aroma is a nice mix of sweet and savory. Flavor needs a bit more cohesiveness. Starts with big roasted malt and a touch of the dried fruits. Then coffee and light smoke. Finish has notes of coffee and is quite boozy (and this is still pretty cold). I think a little time may help the flavors meld in this one. it has all the components and complexity of an incredible beer, they are just not working together yet.

From a 12 oz into a snifter. Smells of alcohol, butterscotch and bitter black chocolate. Pours with an inch or two of head which quickly dissipates leaving a little bit of lacing, but not much. Taste is of alcohol, dark chocolate, coffee and smoke. Mouthfeel is very thick and hearty. Not much of a bitter aftertaste, which is good. Overall, a very good stout. I don’t like the up front alcohol kick but hey, it’s 10% so what do I expect. It is an excellent value at $8 a four pack. I’m letting a couple sit for a year and trying again, so I’ll update then. I’d happily drink again.

330 ML Bottle in USA. A very deep dark roastiness prevades the senses with a nice hop bitterness followed by a slight malt sweetness as it finishes. A very nice solid stout best one I ever had!

Straight black pour dark as you can get ... tan head light lacing chocolate roasted malt aroma creamy head medium mellow malty taste with a lot of chocolate flavor some dark fruits ... as it gets warmer you taste the alcohol a little in the flavor .... a solid stout that has mostly chocolate dominating

Rich dark brown/black color; Heavy creamy body; Aroma of malt, dry fruit and some coffee; Flavor of rich roasted malt, dark chocolate, caramel, and some fruit overtones; Well balanced, with a hint of bitterness; The alcohol does linger for awhile; Really good stout.

355 mL bottle. Poured jet black with a thick 2 finger head that surprisingly didn’t last. Aroma of deep, dark, chocolate malts (obviously) and alcohol. The taste is just about the same with what I would imagine drinking a bar of bittersweet chocolate would taste like. The booze wasn’t hidden well, but I think that’s a plus in this case. The bitter chocolate taste with a definite booze taste finishes surprisingly smooth. I loved this beer. The fact that it was a cold December night didn’t hurt :). Definitely recommended.

355ml bottle. 09-10 Vintage. Pours black. Thin dark amber head, that disappears quickly. Molasses, dried fruits, butterscotch on the nose. Sweet, lots of dried fruit, expresso with plenty of black licorice in the bitter grapefruit finish. VERY boozey. The alcohol is very much present.

dark chocolate smell, opaque brown-black with a low beige head, taste is a bar of bitter dark chocolate the over 75% kind. boozy smell and taste too, just plain alcohol. thanks to the lcbo this bottle was only 2.60, and was worth that for a wierd dark chocolate in a bottle experience, but so straightforward and just... overpowering, wasnt the imperial stout i was expecting to enjoy tonight, though the name does deliver. difficult to finish 355mls
