Commercial Description:
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say there are only 1000 cases. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Bottle... Poured black with a brown head. Roasted aroma of bourbon notes. Thick, creamy palate with very sweet, roasted grain notes but not cloying. Chocolaty sweet flavors and strong whiskey notes.

Poured black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, bourbon, oak, vanilla. Taste is similar to the aroma, with some caramel also coming through. This may be a little on the "hot" side, though certainly not bad. Mouth is really nice and smooth. Overall, another big barrel-aged stout. Very enjoyable.

Poured out black with big brown head. Taste is roasty, chocolatey and woody bourbon. Nice fruity, coffee, oakey sweetness with dry bitter hoppy finish. Full body, sticky sweet mouthfeel. Great brew, their best beer.

[1964-20090124] Bottle. Roasted fig malt and mild coffee aroma. Black body with a medium-lasting foamy brown head. More roasty malt flavour with lots of fruit and a long coffee grains finish. Full body is boozy. Nice, lovely roast, weird aftertaste.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of chocolate, roasted malts, Hershey’s chocolate syrup, light bourbon, slight vanilla, light wood, and a slight hint of alcohol. Poured pitch black in color with a large, dense, dark brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Good lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of coffee, chocolate, roasted malts, bourbon, alcohol, light vanilla, wood, light caramel, and a hint of the champagne yeast. Medium to full body. Chalky texture. Average carbonation. Chocolate, bourbon, and alcohol finish. 10.7%ABV is noticeable but not overpowering.

Way underestimated this one when I bought it....a pleasant surprise. Dark brown/black pour...thin brown head. Boozy, choco-malt aroma....smells tasty. Smooth and creamy body, but a tad thin..not bad, but I wanted a bit more fullness. Rich choco flavor...bourbon, vanilla, oaky...all the expected players. Good stuff!
