Commercial Description:
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say there are only 1000 cases. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Pours pitch black with a milk chocolate head. Nice fluffy lacing. Aroma is very chocolatey with a red fruitiness. Not much bourbon at all here, which is sort of refreshing. Flavor is somehow not roasty at all. There are coffee notes but none of the roasted bitterness that usually accompanies it. Chocolate syrup and dark chocolate notes with a oakiness and subtle bourbon. Doesn’t taste as big as it is, which is a bit of a downside.

25.4 oz bottle pours, well, black, what would you expect from the name? Chocolate mouse consistency head makes a snap-crackle-pop sound as the bubbles burst, then fades quickly to a thin ring. Aroma is pleasant, but not heavy. Chocolate and alcohol are the main flavors, with coffee in the background, some figs, very faint bourbon, and a bit of oak. Maybe because of the high alcohol content, I really noticed the sound of those champagne yeast bubbles bursting, bursting, bursting. The beer keeps well carbonated to the last sip.

Pours black with a brown head. Nose of plums, prunes, over ripe fruit, vanilla, oak (bourbon). Very smooth and low in carbonation. Flavors of vanilla, oak, and coffee. A strong imperial stout.

2008 Bottle from santa shared with CaryTheDude. Jet black pour with minimal head. Aroma of chocolate, though not a lot of bourbon. Lots of alcohol though. Flavor is rich chocolate, some vanilla and oak. Very smooth, velvety mouthfeel. Delicious beer, glad i got to try it.

Served from a 750mL bottle picked up from Liquor Outlet Wine Cellars. Popping the cork with a big Champagne pop thanks to the Champagne yeast. Pours a rich velvety black with a huge but dissipating toasted brown head. Nose is coffee, bourbon, and oak. Flavors are bourbon, burnt coffee, deep toasted oak, burnt malt, still boozy. Mouth is velvety smooth. Will see what some times does to my 2nd bottle.

Bottle shared by danielcurtis81 on his wedding week. Pours solid black with a bubbly dark beige head. Nose is solid dark chocolate and dark roasted malt. Taste is solid bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt with molasses and brown sugar. Also has a solid alcohol bite that is a little stronger than desired. Overall, this is a SOLID brew.

Aroma is a tantalizing, boozy, woody, espresso siren, dressed in jet black and wearing a small cappuccino head. Flavour starts with a burst of espresso beans, followed by loads of rich toasted malt. Full bodied, total eclipse of the tastebuds , extremely bitter! Magnificent! Thanks for sharing Dave Steen.
