Commercial Description:
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say there are only 1000 cases. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Coles Rare Beer Festival , Appearance: pitch black with mid light dark tanned top. Good looking ale. Aroma: murky , deep woody feel. Tobacco , roast with brown malts , grainy. Quiet solid subtle complexity.8- Flavor/Palate: mild darkness, slight roast , hint of oak. Clean dark malts with smooth alcohol on side. Very drinkable for strong ale. Strong performer all around.

Enjoyed at Coles. Big bourbon cask aroma, very good bourbon taste at that, supported by some chocolate malts. Above average mouthfeel. Yeasty, a bit of sourness in mid-sip offset by the vanilla in the wood. A RIS with some complexity. Dark colour.A big beer.

Bottle @ Cole’s. Black, dark tan head. nose is bourbon barrel, hugeh rich malt, cocoa, a little milk/cream, vanilla. Flavor is bourbon, lost of malt, milk chocolate, some fruit. I’d love to try this without the barrel aging.

750 mL bottle purchased from Chucks Liquor in Bowling Green, KY. Shared with a group at the inaugural Barrios’ tasting. Poured a dark brown/almost black with a two finger brown head. The aroma was bourbon and vanilla with an alcohol note. The flavor was vanilla and bourbon, with smoked meat present, and a serious lack of roasted malt. The palate was above average, with a creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation and a full body. This was an above average beer. I am glad I was able to share this with a good group.

4 oz. sample at Cole’s in Buffalo. Pitch black with a brown head. The aroma is roasty with coffee and light bourbony notes. The flavor is a touch on the boozy side, with dark chocolate, roasted malt and bourbon. Not bad.

Bottle shared by Nqualls at Barrios tasting. Pours a beautiful black with a one finger brown head. Aroma is full of bourbon- vanilla, oak, and alcohol. Full bodied, but with not a lot of heft in the texture. Flavor of vanilla, oak, and coca- but could use a bit more dark roastiness for my tastes. Lots of residual sweetness. Overall a nice beer, but a bit heavy on the bourbon for me.

Bottle from MaltOMeal shared at the Houston Impy Tasting II. Thanks, man! Pours a beautiful black with a nice head of beige. Aroma is straight-up chocolate with oak chips in the far background. Bourbon? I can’t smell ANY bourbon. Tastes of bourbon-infused chocolate; bourbon is very prominent throughout, especially in the lingering finish. Thouigh assertive, it never overpowers. Nice mouthfeel. Above average for sure.
