Commercial Description:
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say there are only 1000 cases. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Aroma is a tantalizing, boozy, woody, espresso siren, dressed in jet black and wearing a small cappuccino head. Flavour starts with a burst of espresso beans, followed by loads of rich toasted malt. Full bodied, total eclipse of the tastebuds , extremely bitter! Magnificent! Thanks for sharing Dave Steen.

750 ml bottle acquired via trade some time ago. Pours a deep black color with a small white head. A slightly slick body. The aroma is very strong bourbon notes, woody and slightly sour notes. The flavor is dominated by a rich mix of bourbon, wood, roasted malts and a sweeter chocolate mix. Light vanilla as well. Very nice and a well done BA Impy.

750 ml bottle - thanks to homebrewcolin for sharing; oily, jet black; lovely nose of roasted malt and sweet chocolate; texture is quite thin and kind of boozy; chocolate, oak, vanilla; some fruity sweetness too; quite nice overall but texture was a letdown

Pours opaque oily black with a small island is brown foam left. Boozy nose with with some decent roast and chocolate character. The flavor is mostly just hot with booze and tannic with oak. I find this to be very thin and prickly. I can see why most people like this one, and I certainly don’t hate it. I just prefer a richer beer for an imperial stout.

2009 Bottle - Pours almost black with a small beige head that barely lingers...aroma is a nice surprise for the style, I can actually smell things besides bourbon...coffee, cocoa and vanilla to start, with some oak and bourbon coming thru, but not overwhelming...flavour is creamy and smooth, nice dark chocolate bitterness with some boozy oak and vanilla creme...I really dug this brew...and nice to see another BA Imp Stout that doesn’t take the bigger is better approach in terms of barrel...

( 750ml bottle thanks to zdk9) Pours the blackest of black with nice creamy tan head and great lacing. The nose and taste have coffee, smoke, and light milk cfhocolate. Not as heavy as many stouts so I loved that, but still coats the glass like oil. A great stout.

Bottle. Opaque black pour, capped with a moderate sized brown head. Beautiful aroma, with vanilla, oak, dark fruit, chocolate malt, and some alcohol. Roasted chocolate malt is the primary flavor, along with oak, bourbon, ash, and vanilla. Bourbon and ash stick to the palate for a long finish. Body is thinner than I expected. The aroma was really enticing, but the flavor didn’t blow my mind.
