Commercial Description:
Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve bottles. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say there are only 1000 cases. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of MaltOMeal. Pours black and opaque with a light brown head. Aroma of hard roasted malt, bourbon and a whiff of metal. Medium body, hard roasted malt, a little ashes and fruit with the bourbon shining through. The finish has warming alcohol and distinct burned malt. 290509

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a lazing dark brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt and chocolate, as well as lighter notes of alcohol and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet malty combined with notes of roasted malt and alcohol, as well as lighter notes of over ripe fruits, wood, vanilla, and bourbon, leading to a dry and hard roasted finish.

Blind tasting at Papsø’s
Black color; medium head. Aroma of roasted malt, paint remover, phenol, and vanilla oak. Medium body, alcoholic (aggressive), chemicals flavor (paint remover), roasted malt, some sourness. It’s like using good ingredients to make something not good. Completely chaotic and confused.

Bottle at The Rake, HogTownHarry visit May 2009. Many thanks to Harry for bringing this over. Black, lasting tan head. Vanilla on aroma, lots of vanilla. Very boozy on finish. Much better when decarbonated by pouring it from one glass to another.. Very boozy, vanilla. Good black dark malts. V v V hoppy. Bit too hot on finish. Lots of hop and liquorice.

750 ml bottle from mcbackus! Thanks Matt. Nose is heavy in chocolate and light with bourbon accents. Black with a big cinnamon tan head. Flavor is bourbon, woodiness, coffee, and light alcohol, the chocolate character seeming to disappear. Finish is light bourbon and a hint of bitterness.

Big bottle shared at the beer-dinner party with Garrett Oliver. Dense, brownish head over a opaque, dark body. The bourbon oak character is very much present in aroma and flavour. Otherwise, quite well balanced with a fusion of coffee and vanilla chocolate and a welcoming long lasting bitter aftertaste. This was the best one we had at the interesting meeting with the brewmaster (Slotskroen, Hillerød 14.05.2009).

Bottle, 10.7% at KØ09. Good distinct vanilla/cigarbox aroma. Black colour. Small brown head. The flavour is not as good as the aroma. Roasted with a little vanilla and some whisky notes.
