Commercial Description:
Since ancient times, people have complained that “things were better in the old days”. In the 1840’s, English brewers became nostalgic for beers of the previous century, strong dark ales with robust flavors. Thus the term “old ale” was born and these beers were re-popularized. Our Brooklyn Blunderbuss Old Ale brings back the grand old style. It’s brewed with flavorful English Maris Otter malt with a dash of equally flavorful raw demerara sugar from Malawi. Challenger and East Kent Golding hops give the beer appetizing earthy/fruity aromatics. The bitterness is crisp, balancing a solid center of orangey fruit with caramel and chocolate notes. It dries into the finish, leaving a warm glow of malt. Perhaps some things really were better in the old days. Enjoy Brooklyn Blunderbuss Old Ale with steaks, burgers, roast beef, lamb chops, Mexican mole and black bean sauces and hard cow’s-milk cheeses. Malts: British Maris Otter, Crystal, and Chocolate malts Other sugars: Raw demerara, Malawi Hops: Willamette, East Kent Golding, Challenger O.G.: 19° Plato (1076) ABV: 8.2%

Amber/brown color with no head. Some toffee, caramel, and prune in the aroma. Sweet toffee and booze flavor with a bit of dark fruit. Ok.

Sampled at The Brass Tap (Wesley Chapel, FL). The aroma was a little odd at first. At first sniff it had a very medicinal aroma to it that eventually mellowed into a mixture of malt, burnt sugar, and dried fruits. The flavor grew on me as well. The first sip was unimpressive but as the beer warmed and the flavors blended it wasn’t bad. I wouldn’t run out to buy it but it was decent.

Draft @ Capone’s: Poured a brownish red with not much head. The aroma was sweet dark fruits and malts. The flavor was dark fruits, hint of cherries, malts, and roasted chocolate. Overall, a nice different beer.

Tap. Moderate aromas all around, dark bread and toasted for the malt, perfume and resin for the hops, leather and musty for the yeast, and a background note of raisin. Head is creamy, off-white with fair lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is clear dark copper. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Palate is medium, oily and has a carbonation between soft and lively. A well rounded Old Ale tending on the dry/bitter side.

On tap @ Coles, Buffalo NY. Pours a deep caramel color. Aromas of faint cherry, malty sweetness, light booziness & chocolate. Taste is malty richness, light cherry, chocolate. Pretty smooth & not bad. Getting better with ever sip as it warms
