Mild aroma of sweet, dark, pitted fruit and lightly toasted malt. Tart fruit skin. Cherries and prunes. Earthy and grassy malt and hop profile. Pours a dark, nearly opaque brown with a thick, creamy off white head leaving spotty lacing. The English malts and hops definitely dominate the flavor. Earthy, toffee and toasty malt. Grassy, dirty and rather nondescript hops. Some tart apple, dried banana, bakers chocolate. Hops and malt never really come together all that well. Fairly light bodied for and Old Ale. Carbonation was adequate. Finishes fairly watery and dry. Thanks Larry! joebudzjoe (233), Connecticut, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 11, 2009 The aroma is malty, toasted malts, and a nutty quality. A murky sweetness arises from the beer as well, like molasses maybe. Attractive amber, almost brown color, light off white head, decent amount of carbonation. The flavor is nutty up front, toasted malt, caramel, sugar, slight alcohol. Very enjoyable. The finish is a lingering bitterness from the hops, and slight alcohol. I love both traditional and old ales. This was worth finding. Definitely an enjoyable beer. goldtwins (4085), Nesconset, New York, USA
