Ringwood yeast.. it has to be. The smell is minerally and slight hoppy, with chocolate and coffee undertones. The taste is sulfuric and minerally, not in a bad way though. Very traditional throughout. Rich, bold, and strong tasting, but quaffable as a mother. Chocolate and coffee flavors abound, but are balanced by a long, drawn out bitterness. Very good example of the style. Maverick34 (716), New York, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 15, 2008 Poured a hazy borwn color with a thin white head. Had a faint aroma of caramel, some malts, and a little bit of nuts and roastiness. The flavor was pretty bland with some hints of nuts and roastiness with a slight bitterness on the backend. The body was a little thin as well. There wasn’t much to this one, probably my least favorite of this style. Edmoe (128), Orlando, Florida, USA

Flavor is a very nice balance between sweet and hoppiness. Has a decent mouthfeel without any astringency I often find in brown ales. A very good beer that is inexpensive. This might just become one of my standard session beers. dankman38 (228), Somewhere in, Ohio, USA

Smells like roasted malt with a tad of coffee and cocoa. Tastes like sweet roasted malt with some soy added in. Finish is strong with roasted malt and it lasts a while. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 12, 2008 Pours clear deep dark amber with lasting tan foam ring. The light aroma is roasty with sweet notes floating around. The taste is nice and roasty with just noticeable astringency that may be a tad too light for the style. The roasty malts become richer tasting toward the finish as a nice caramel note surfaces. It ends with mild roasted malts. Nice Brown. Ghett0Gary (23), Belmar, New Jersey, USA
