I think this is just as good as the Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale. My big complaint about brown ales is that they tend to be sweetish, with little to no hops. I realize this is the style, but I have no use for them. This one is a bit more hoppy, but still has a nice, roasty finish. Almost like a mild porter. Very nice.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 16, 2009 Rich brown color with a nice fluffy head. Aroma of nuts and toast. Better than I remember. Flavor has some toast, roasted grain and peanuts with a bit of caramel sweetness and hint of bitterness. malrubius (1004), Valley Stream, New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Dec 7, 2009 12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Brown with lasting light tan head and lace. Mild toasty malt aroma. Toasty brown sugar with mild dark fruit sweetness and mild bitter somewhat fizzy finish. Medium-light body with a little carbo bite. Not a huge fan of the style. Only might eighth brown ale rating. (Haven’t even rated Newcastle, which I’ve had many times in the distant past.) Decent enough. smcolw (366), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 4, 2009 Modest head that leaves low level lace. The color is neutral brown--appears clear.
Warm caramel aroma with a touch of chocolate. Light hop in the background.
The taste reminds me of a pale ale with lots of crystal malts. Pleasant hop finish--still this is a malty beer with light chocolate malts. Relatively thin liquor.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 2, 2009 Pours out a dark amber, almost brown color with a very thin off-white head. The aroma is mild with slightly fruity notes of citrus and grass. The body is medium-light with a carbonated mouth feel. Slightly bitter citrus and earth flavor with a subtle toasty character that is rather muted. Finish is short and light. For such a dark beer it is surprisingly light. bobman006 (74), New Jersey, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 30, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark brown with ruby tint and tight, receding off-white head. Aromas of tobacco, caramel, clove, cherry, and chocolate. Flavors of caramel, tobacco, leather, cherry and chocolate with soy sauce and roasted nuts. Medium body. Oily and lingering finish. Great within style. SpencerDB (99), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 28, 2009 Bottle at The Lodge in Charlotte. Pretty intense chocolate and dark malt aroma that lead to an unfortunately lacking taste in my opinion. Was somewhat creamy and almost seemed a bit watered down. Still enjoyable but if it was just a little more full bodied I think it would be a great beer. nickd717 (1385), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 27, 2009 12oz bottle from Chevy Chase in DC. Pours clear dark brown with a medium-sized off-white head. Aroma is caramel, nuts, and chocolate. Flavor is great for the style, with caramel and chocolate malts, toffee, and nuts. Smooth on the palate with a medium-light body that makes it really drinkable. Very good northern English brown ale overall. Tessic (473), Brantford, Ontario, Canada
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 22, 2009 This brown ale poured a deep red colour with a fast living, tan coloured head. To the nose there are scents of juniper, soy sauce, brown sugar and a little cocoa. First swig was rich and not quite as full bodied as I remember. Flavours of roasted malts and coffee are the first to come to life. The finish is slightly bitter with roastyness lingering
