Commercial Description:
Chef Floyd Cardoz and brewmaster Garrett Oliver have combined their inspirations to bring you Brooklyn Cuvée de Cardoz. This golden wheat beer starts with a base of malted barley and unmalted wheat and then builds upon it a delicate balance of exotic spices selected by Chef Cardoz and then toasted and ground in the kitchens at Tabla. Ginger, tamarind, mace, black pepper, coriander, fennel, fenugreek, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and chilies are added in the kettle, and then the beer is infused with toasted coconut after the fermentation. Combined with our yeast and light hopping, these spices give the beer a gentle, complex perfume, a full fruity palate, and long, drying finish with a very faint prickle of heat.

On draft at Brass Tap. Pours a clear gold with a bone white head. Nose is wheaty and some barley- I get the spices, I get the ginger and citrus, and pepper, but I do not really get any coconut. Flavor is much the same, but with more pepper and spice coming out... ginger, nutmeg, pepper, cloves, coriander, and a citrus quality with some wheat character and pale malt. Light to medium body with lingering spice in the finish. Interesting beer.

Draft @ Vine & Barley. This is a weird one. I’m not really sure what I think about it. Pours hazy golden color with white head. Crazy spice aroma. Corriander, pepper, orange peel, clove, bananas, cinnamon, fennel. Overly sweet flavor. I’m getting the spice flavors similar to the aromas with some Belgian yeast. Medium body with average carbonation. Too much going on.

On tap at the Porter beer bar. Was surprised to see this since I did not even know it existed. With so few ratings at this point it does not look like a lot of other people know it does either. Pour is a pretty delicisous looking bright yellow with a lightly creamy white head. Decent spice aroma but the flavor has much more spice in there. Banana and cloves dominate the flavor with a decent body and mouthfeel. The alcohol is well hidden here and I could almost be tricked into drinking multiples of these too easily.

I am surprised to see how low the ratings are on this beer. Aroma had some light spices, cherries and a load of banana. Appearance was golden with a light creamy head. Flavor was full of bananas , with some spice and cherries. Palate was creamy. I know it is 8.5%, but it seems more appropriately listed as a blond to me. I though this beer was pretty good.

On tap at the Beechtree. Pours a light hazy glowing gold with a medium white head. Banana, yeast, corriander, and a touch of bubblegum. Medium bodied and tasting like oolong tea, and eucalyptus. Finishes with some mint, spice, yeast, and more banana. Overly busy and a little bit of a mess.

Copenhagen beer festival 2009. Cloudy yellow with a small white head. Spicy complex aroma with yeast notes, banana esters and a touch of herbal hops. Dry, fruity and spicy flavour with a drying spicy finish.

Tap at the "brewery": Hazy golden pour with a white film of head. Very, very sweet aroma- rock candy, honey, all the spices are masked by residual sugars and bubblegum phenols. Fluffy feel with an unbearably sweet flavor. All residual sugars, honey, bubblegum, candy sugar- completely masks all the spices that are listed which sound interesting. This beer can be rated in a couple of words..."Bubblegum phenolics and residual sugars." Yuck.

The aroma is strong lemon peel, coriander. The appearance is a light gold, strong white head. The flavor is spicy, citrusy. The finish has a bittering due to the spicyness of this beer. Thin/medium mouthfeel, strong carbonation. Not bad for what it is.
