Commercial Description:
Brooklyn East India Pale Ale, originally a summer seasonal, has been getting raves since becoming a year round offering in 1996. Garrett Oliver, a student of English brewing and beer history, uses English malts and hops to brew his EIPA in the classic, heavily-hopped style of the 19th century beers created for British soldiers serving in India.

Sharp and flowery. It’s a well-made IPA but nothing special. About what you would expect for a reputable microbrew IPA.

Enjoyed from a 12oz bottle. Nose is full of earthy English hops. Flavor is relatively balanced between malt and a dry finishing hop flavor and bitterness. Overall, a vastly underrated beer from Garrett Oliver.

Bottle at Winking Lizard. Pours a clear copper with a big white head. Grapefruity hop aroma with some malt. Crisp citrus hop flavor with a nice malt balance. Used to be one of my absolute favorite IPAs. I have found some better ones over the last two years, but this one is still solid overall.

Pours a golden color with a small lasting head. and good lacing. Aroma is strong with citrus like hops and has a small malt aroma. Taste of light malt and heavy hop flavor with a slight alcoholic aftertaste. A pretty good IPA.

12 oz bottle. Pours a nice deep golden amber with a white head which lasts all 12 oz. Nice sweet malty taste, and a milder hoppy taste than most other IPAs I’ve had. Nice balance of hops and malty sweetness. Caramel notes with a hoppy bitter finish. Better than the current 79%-tile.

Bottled. Poured clear ambery-golden with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up spicy floral and orange notes over a semi-sweet caramel base.. warm overall with a touch of candied sweetness on the back. The flavor found sweeter caramel at the core with orange, clove, and floral bitterness around.. alcohol and sweetness clashed some on the finish that also carried through grainy, bitter remnants. Medium-bodied and increasingly bitter on the palate as it went along.. OK balance, but too sweet.
