Commercial Description:
January 2008 release of the Brooklyn Brewmaster Reserve series. Brooklyn Extra Brune is a Belgian-style dark abbey ale, brewed in the style developed by Belgium’s Trappist monasteries. Its rich, plumy, raisiny flavors are derived not only from Belgian yeasts, but also from imported Belgian dark “candi” sugar syrup. This syrup is ultra-caramelized, lending both flavor and color to this copper-brown beer. The yeast gives the beer a fruity/spicy complexity, which starts slightly sweet on the palate, but dries into the finish. This is a perfect beer for winter foods – game meats, lamb, stews, and rich cheeses. Malts: European Pilsner malt, Belgian “Special B”. Additional sugars: Belgian Dark Candi Hops: German Perle OG: 19.2° Plato ABV: 8.5%

Draft. Pours a medium brown with a full head. The aroma had hints of Belgian candied sugar, roasted malts, and dark fruits. A very smooth flavor with hints of caramel, sugar, spices. Medium body. A very well done beer.

Sampled on draft at Zeno’s in State College PA this beer poured a chestnut brown color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma was lightly sugary and had a hint of roasty malts and ripe fruits. The flavor was bitter, sweet and sugary with notes of chocolate, tasty malts, and hints of ripe fruits - mostly cherry and pear. The finish was long sweet chocolate. Nice.

Handbottle from Ty5592, thanks dude! Poured a deep brown color witha amber highlights and a thin tan head that receded quickly. Strong aroma of candi sugar, bubble gum, plums, raisins, and a hint of clove. A smooth entry with light spiciness leads into a spicy middle with a light yeastiness and undertones of bubble gum and fruit (light banana) and finishes dry with just a hint of smoke. Relatively full on the palate, nice drying finish. Alcohol wasn’t very detectable either. Overall, a nice treat. Thanks again Ty.

Draft at CB Six. Darker amber in color with a slightly speckled medium brown head which wisped away rather quickly. Smelled slightly sour with some spiciness. Tasted nice with a full mouth of toastedness puntcuated with some sourness. Finished with a distinct taste of alcohol.

Excellent Brune! Flavors were very spicy and fruity and enveloped the palate with cinammon, cloves, and caramel. Definitely worth trying.

Philly Craft Beer Festival. Small plastic sample cup. Yellow brown with white froth. Nose is yeast, perfume and yellow raisin. Sticky sweet with banana, bubblegum and toffee. Rich but not heavy.
