Commercial Description:
Brewed broadly in the Belgian saison (or sezoens) farmhouse ale style, Brooklyn Flemish Gold is a dry, hoppy, spicy beer with a distinctive American twist. Flemish Gold is brewed from German pilsener malt and brewer’s sugar, bittered with German Perle hops, aromatized in the kettle with Czech Saaz hops, and fermented to flinty dryness by a Belgian ale yeast. Then we dry-hop the beer with Glacier (a relatively new hop in the Fuggle family) from the Pacific Northwest. Served unfiltered, Flemish Gold has a bright, fresh hop aroma, an orangey spiciness from our special top-fermenting yeast, a racy, refreshing palate, and a snappy finish.

On tap at both Brass Tap and Oldsmar Tap House (Tampa, FL). Pours a hazy golden color with a bright white one finger head. Lively carbonation, good retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet, somewhat malty, hops, honey, slight spice, bread, yeast. Flavor is also sweet, notes of honey, spice, some tangy citrus on the fade toward finish. Medium body with a quick finish.

11/04/2008: Brooklyn Flemish Gold has a beautiful, bright yellow color that’s topped by a puffy white head. The beer is cloudy and looks quite radient in the glass. The aroma and flavor are both filled with yeasty characteristics, spice (lots of pepper-like spice), grassy hops, light biscuit, and slightly tart citrus (lemon). This beer is light and airy on the palate, well-carbonated, and quite refreshing. Overall it’s quite good!

Draught (pint) at Dilly Deli in Mariemont, Ohio. Purchased for me by my co-worker Bill. Thanks! Rating #26 for this beer.

On tap at Brass Tap. Pours straw gold with a light, grassy aroma. Flavor is malt with lime, grass, hay, and pepper. Finish is bitter lemon with lemongrass and distinct hops. Very unique.

On tap at Zeno’s Pub. Noses with a bit of cold bandaid, crisp. Pours a soft gold, hazed, with a rim in white. Flavor is quiet. A soft mingle of pale fruits, slightly medicinal yeast character, a bit of cracked green peppercorn, and some wheat sugars. There’s flavor here, but it’s pretty subtle and soft. Palate carries a foamy, bubbled character. Soft and like cream of wheat. Finishes on some more peppercorn and some juicyfruit yeast character. Dry. Somewhat balanced. Flavor profile could be turned up a few degrees. Needs a little less bandaid and yeast dirtiness. Otherwise, decent.

On draft at Redlight! A cloudy gold color with a fluffy white head greets you with the smell of apples, wheat and orange. The taste leaves a little more to be desired. I was hoping for a little more sourness, but this just seems to bring the wheat. Citrus is the prevailing flavor. It isn’t bad, I just wish it would have had a little more kick.

Tap at the Blind Tiger. Sweet, clove and spice aroma, oregano and tomato and basil. Hmmmm. Reminds me of that Sprecher Pizza Beer, almost. Pale yellow pour with a light, green tinge, huge head and lacing. Light body, mild carbonation, a peppery and floral finish. Almost gruit-like, has some nice juniper as well. Gentle and quite nice.

Draft… Hazy, light golden ale with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. Very good retention. The nose is chock full of clove and smoke phenols… man, I hate clove. Light to medium-bodied and very fizzy. Crisp, fairly nondescript flavor… lightly spicy and light fruity. Bone-dry finish. These phenolic Belgian brews are so not my thing.

On tap at the OTH (Oldsmar Tap House). Poured up in a deep tulip glass gold with a slight haze and blooming tall white head of foam. The aroma has notes of tartness, an earthiness that isn’t too earthy (??) followed by fruitiness, mild Belgian candi sugar and banana. The first impression of the taste is how really refreshing this brew is. It has a nice crisp tart mildly Bretty moving to modestly bitter with hops. It then picks up smooth understated earthiness and assorted fruits like banana, raisin, apricot and then some Belgian candi sugar. Nice stuff.
