Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Mar 20, 2009 Draft at Katz’s for $6.95, jeez but hell the sandwiches were freaking amazing, actually everything i ate there was incredible a must go. Oh yeah the beer. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Lots of flavor here, fruity esters hints of plum, cherry, toffee, a hint of chocolate, chewy with some caramel and coco. Wow this was a dam good offering, but the corn beef and pastrami well that’s in a whole other realm. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Feb 5, 2009 Tap at Katz’s but mine was poured in a 16 oz pint glass for $7.00. Pours a nice clear coppery brown with a nice lasting fluffy white head. Aroma is nutty, lightly fruity with good yeasty esters, slight chocolate and dark toasted malts with a good herbal floral hop profile. Great toasty and nutty flavor, hints of chocolate and grassy hops along with a nice smooth fruityness. Palate is crisp and clean and real smooth- ridiculously easy to drink. Not sure if I could tell the difference between this and their regular brown ale. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Dec 29, 2008 Tap at Katzs, poured into a styrofoam cup for $7. Great. Tough to get an accurate appearance rating like that, but it had a nice thick head and looked OK when I drank it so Ill give it a 4. Juicy, fruity aroma, light euro and a touch of American hops. Fruity, vineous taste, very natural hoppy flavors. Easy drinking, rich, good body. Quite nice. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Sep 28, 2008 Deep brownish-amber beer with a creamy tan head. Aroma is lightly nutty and malty. Soft chewy sweetness with a lightly spicy maltiness. Light-medium bodied with a good balance of malts and hops. Soflty earthy/herbal finish with some light coffeeish/cocoa notes. It’s a bit lighter than their brown ale, but in a similar vein. A bit of soft toasted malt on the finish. Quite herbal and earthy. I like it. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA May 1, 2008 4/25/2008: Katz’s Ale has a clear brown color and a foamy beige head. The aroma contains light chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor has a nice lightly herbal and floral hop presence and bitterness alond with some distinct chocolate flavor with some coffee notes in the finish. This medium-bodied beer is pretty tasty and was a nice accompaniment to my pastrami sandwich, but come on, $8.00 a pint is a complete rip off (and so is $14.95 for a pastrami sandwich)!
Pint (draught) at Katz’s Delicatessen in New York City (Lower East Side). Rating #1 for this beer...
