Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Brooklyn Lager has won numerous awards. Wrote Michael Jackson in the Simon & Schuster Pocket Guide to Beer: "The dry-hopped, fresh, flowery, firm, flavourful, Brooklyn Lager **-*** started well, in 1988, and has gained in character since."

One of beers of choice when I lived in Manhattan. Never made it to the brewery though. Red body with exploding head. Slightly hoppy nose. Lots of hops in the taste. Spicy. Smooth, and a great session beer.

Glass of the month at Winking Lizard. Clear red in color with a huge white head. Not much going on in the nose; lager yeast and a bit of hop. Flavor is outstanding for the style. A nice hop and malt balance that is way more pronounced than most lagers. Reminds me of a really well made ESB. Was not at all excited to see that this was the glass of the month, but it far exceeded my expectations. Kudos to Mr. Oliver and the Brooklyn folks for taking a humdrum style and turning into something interesting.

Light orange lager. Light aroma with hops. Dry over the palate but does not offend with the aftertaste. Interestingly smooth.

Not what I expected for a Vienna. Hops dominated the malt way too much for me to consider this a good Vienna.

When I’m in NYC this is my go-to beer when selection is limited. Amber in color, it’s more like a pale ale than a lager really, with a great floral hoppy aroma and flavor that you don’t usually see in this style. Smooth and crisp like a lager, however, with a sweet malty backbone. Hell of a session beer.

Appears quite dark for a lager with a good sized and active head of a reasonably creamy foam. Creamy hop aromas, mildly fruity and sweet. Sweet in the mouth with some citrus fruits and honeyed malt then a lightly bittered finish. Very drinkable. A little bit fizzy for me but still excellent. Very drinkable, which is aided by its very reasonable price. Interesting enough but not too much to think about when having a bit of a session.

Brooklyn lager is clear, deep gold in color and has a quickly dissipating head. Upon popping the cap, the smell of fresh hops rises up pleasantly. In the flavor department we have a floral character with hints of apples, grapes, and sweet malts. The hops and sweetness actually hit you simultaneously, but the hops take the high road over the roof and sides of your mouth while the sweet flavors go underneath. The final act leaves you with some lingering sweetness coupled with dry bitterness. A very well balanced lager - one of the best I’ve had.

Bottled. Poured lighter amber with a short off-white head that stood up nicely. The aroma picked up sweet caramel and lighter fruity notes with pineapple and honey accents.. decent. The flavor had caramel and honey sweetness surrounded by spicy and citrus bitterness.. tacky and muddled on the finish. This really dried out toward the back of the palate, leaving a grainy impression.. didn’t flow well.
