Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Brooklyn Lager has won numerous awards. Wrote Michael Jackson in the Simon & Schuster Pocket Guide to Beer: "The dry-hopped, fresh, flowery, firm, flavourful, Brooklyn Lager **-*** started well, in 1988, and has gained in character since."

...this beer is really trying to be something it’s not...an amber ale. While pre-prohibition lagers were typically more malty and bit more hopped, they weren’t supplemented with crystal (or any other type of caramel) malt, as this beer is. Pre-prohibition lagers were made with what was available at the time, which were, more often than not, things like 6-Row Pale malt, wheat, corn, etc. ... not english or german style malted grains...those came later. The ingredients in this brew smack of American amber ale...(sans the lager yeast)...not any style of lager. While this brew is certainly better than a Sam Adam’s lager offering, it’s really no better than any good homebrew... and it isn’t a pre-prohibition lager.

This is what a lager should taste like. Take note big guys. Lots of flavor and no corn.

Had in SoHo, on draft. Very similair to Sam’s boston lager imo. But all together a bit bolder.. heavy hop and spice presence, medium bodied. Looked great being poured. Overall, above expectations.

From... a can! Nice new way to enjoy this beer. Had this many times before but finally ranking after an afternoon on the lake and these suckers straight from the can. Medium dark amber pour with off-white head. Much more malt and flowery hops than expected from a beer labeled a lager. I always taste celery seeds when I drink this beer, which is a bit odd, I suppose. Heavier on the palate than a lager as well. Great session beer. Feels a little sticky sometimes. Really enjoyed this beer ever since having multiple pints at the Fat Black Pussy Cat many years ago in Greenwich Village...

From bottle... poured dark orange. Aroma was citrusy, but also slightly nutty. Packed with flavor -- bright and hoppy. Slightly dry finish. I loved this one, and I’ll definitely get it again.

12oz bottle. Pours deep amber, thick light tan head. Aroma is rich and full of malted barley and sweet floral hops. One of the best smelling beers from the east coast I’ve opened in a good while... Flavor is very light. Hints of toasted malts, honey, cardboard, and some leather and hay. Earthy finish. Medium bodied.

Bottle: Nice light brown color with a semi off white head. Large scents of hops. Very surprising on the first taste. Very smooth and not bitter.
