Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Brooklyn Lager has won numerous awards. Wrote Michael Jackson in the Simon & Schuster Pocket Guide to Beer: "The dry-hopped, fresh, flowery, firm, flavourful, Brooklyn Lager **-*** started well, in 1988, and has gained in character since."

Bottle purchased at Sam’s Wine and Spirits, in Chicago. Pours a clear, pale copper with a dense, creamy, off-white head that leaves behind sticky lace. The nose is of muted toasted malt and a nice compliment of floral hops. Light-bodied without feeling thin, the mouthfeel is soft and clean with a subtle hop bitterness at the finish. The flavor follows the nose: sweet, toasted caramel malt up front backed by an excellent balance of floral hops. This is an exceptionally quaffable and flavor brew. I could easily run through a sixer of this watching a ballgame. Unfortunately, I can’t get it here in KC.

BOTMC Selection: Poured from the bottle into a double-walled pint glass. Pour produced a golden amber body with a pale yellow head of foam which mostly diminished with moderate lacing. Aroma is well-balanced, with a fair amount of hops, providing a floral scent. Dry, bitter taste, with some malting, and a clean bitter aftertaste. Not overly complex, though full-flavored.

Bottle. 12 fl. oz. Clear amber color with fine, white head and nice lacing. Blended aroma of sweet malt and citrus. Thin body with a dry finish. Flavor mirrors the aroma but with a healthy amount of bitterness going down. Clean, crisp, highly drinkable.

Bottle from Whole Foods in Charlottesville. Brown pour with a medium head. Decent retention, moderate lacing. A much hoppier aroma than expected for a lager. Some sweet notes in the aroma also. Hops are large in the taste also, along with a vegetal, metallic and slightly salty unpleasant flavor. Interesting stuff.

12oz bottle (variety pack) from Bayville Package Store, Fenwick Island, DE...pours amber in color, frothy white head (cold pint glass right out of the freezer)...mild but sweet malty aroma with a hint of citrus...mildly bitter flavor, some hops, malt...decent lacing...little bit of a thin mouthfeel, went down fast...easy drinking good tasting lager.

Bottle: Poured deep copper to amber in color. the nose showed off citrus, caramel and had a nice spiciness. The palate was sweet (caramel) but also had a balancing bitterness with some noticable citrus. Soft, plush and medium-bodied.

Sparkling amber, small fizzy head. Herbal and biscuit malty nose. Flavor is slightly buttery caramel malts, herbal hops. A bit watery but smooth palate. Nicely hopped, crisp lager, not that far from a (really) poor IPA even.

Appearance: Dark amber, almost no head. Aroma: Quite malty, can smell the hops. Sweet. Taste: A bit boring. Malty aftertaste. Info: 355ml bottle, 13/8-2005, 1/300
