Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Lager, the Brewery's flagship label, is New York's "hometown" beer, brewed to a pre-Prohibition recipe that dates back to the days when Brooklyn was the brewing capital of the East Coast. Brooklyn Lager has won numerous awards. Wrote Michael Jackson in the Simon & Schuster Pocket Guide to Beer: "The dry-hopped, fresh, flowery, firm, flavourful, Brooklyn Lager **-*** started well, in 1988, and has gained in character since."

Draught at the Magician, New York City. This was served too cold, of course, but it’s still a classic beer: full-flavoured with a nice sweet malty base and a long, dry finish. I had this several times on my recent visit to New York and it made me wish (and I know that this is sacrilege for a Camra member) that there were decent keg beers widely available in the Britain so I wouldn’t have to drink John Smith’s or Guinness when I go to bars with no cask beers.

Pours a clear reddish amber with a thick creamy white head. Aroma is honey with a bit of hops. The flavor is malty with a nice little hop kick to it. Somewhat grassy on the finish. Pretty decent lager.

Not usually a big fan of lagers, but the extra hops in here really make it pretty good. Grassy and slightly sweet with a toffee malt flavor.

Fairly nutty with a nice malt base that was fairly sweet but not overly so. A good amount of hops as well. Very solid business.

12oz bottle: Poured a golden honey color with a suitable white top. The aroma is a delicate balance of honey and caramel malt and grassy and piney hops. Soft and inviting. Drinks easy with a subtle dose of sweet malts and rindy hops. Finishes slightly bitter and leaves me wanting more. Good.

Clear amber body with an appealing, frothy off-white head. The aroma is more hoppy (flowers, mostly, but also notes of orange peel and grapefruit) than malty (caramel, baked cookie), but presents both. The flavor is lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Moderate acidity. Finishes with a slight sourness in addition to a mild bitterness. Dry. The medium body has lively carbonation and a watery texture. Reminds me a bit of Sam Adams Boston Lager, but more flavorful and a richer body. Nice lager.

On tap. Pours copper with a frothy, foamy head. Aroma of sweet malts and hops. Taste of citrus and hops. Smooth finish. Very nice beer.
