Pour was a nice dark gold with a one finger off white head. Taste was classic Vienna. Caramel and malt mostly and the hops round out the beer in the end. Sticky and wet mouth feel. Nice. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 6, 2007 Crystal clear medium amber body with lively carbonation. Large, spongy, off-white head that settles to a 1mm blanket of foam. Nice thick ribbons of lacing circle the glass. The aroma is subtle but well constructed. Toasty bread notes and surprisingly lively herbal hops play well over a caramel malt base. Floral scents make their way into the mix, adding subtle complexity. The flavor is very similar, with toasty grains, caramel malts, floral and herbal hops blending well in a very fresh tasting, refreshing rendition of the style. There’s a bit of cream mixed in as well, adding smoothness. Medium bodied, with a lively mouthfeel. The finish is mildly spicy. Not a knock your socks off style, but this is well crafted. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Sep 28, 2007 I enjoyed this on draft in Manhattan, and was really pleasantly surprised. The aroma was not too exciting, mostly grainy/earthy hops with a touch of caramel malt. A good appearance, a very dark rust color with a creamy, tan head. The flavor was quite good, hoppy and mostly bitter, but had some sweet aspects as well. I was very impressed with this type of palate from a lager. It was quite creamy and smooth, but still had ample carbonation, very well done. Overall, it exceeded my expectations and I would like to have it again.
