Commercial Description:
In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we forge barley malt and hops from Germany, aromatic raw sugar from Mauritius and yeast from Belgium into our latest beer, Brooklyn Local 1. Behind the full golden color you'll find an alluring aroma, a dynamic complex of flavors. Belgian flair, Brooklyn fortitude and a dusting of our special yeast. To create this beer, we use the old technique of 100% bottle re-fermentation, a practice now rare even in Europe. It gives this beer a palate of unusual depth. Enjoy it locally or globally, as an aperitif or with your favorite dishes. It is particularly nice with spicy seafood and with fine cheeses.

CBF 2009: Medium yellow and hazy. White head, mostly diminishing. Aroma has faint notes of citrus and corinander. Flavor is moderate acidic.

Bottle, Mondial 2009. Hazy yellow with a big fluffy head. Aroma is yeasty, citrusy and malty. Taste is yeast and citrusy. Nothing really special there. Well made but nothing special to me.

Slightly fruity with a yeasty-musty appeal to it. Body is crisp and carbonated. There are notes of spice, cinnamon, etc in there. No trace of alcohol. Major problem is in the finish--its very very dry: there is no residual sweetness (or even flavor) in this beer. It just ends abruptly.

Bottle. Clear yellow with a thin white head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma is sugar, malt, honey and flowers. Flavor is similar with more alcohol.

According to the label (small print, poor color choice, back of the bottle) Brooklyn, Local One is brew with Belgian flair and Brooklyn fortitude. Unfortunately it’s not until you pour the brew that you know what you’re getting. Shame on Brooklyn Local One. My wife picked this up from the discount bin for $4 as opposed to its normal $10 fare. The 750ml bottle pours a slightly hazy yellow-gold hue that clouds when warmed. Loaded with carbonation, the head is large and lasting. The lacing is thick and the aroma is a muted mixture of lemon, fresh yeast, banana, cloves and coriander. Palate is nicely balanced between a full, creamy texture and with a bit of a bite to the tongue. It must be the Brooklyn fortitude. Flavors are stronger than the aroma with tastes of citrus, clove and flowers. It’s an interesting mix of hops and sweetness. While a little too sweet for my liking it was hard to find anything wrong with the structure of this beer.

Shared from a big bottle, no. 0769, at the Garrett Oliver event at Slotskroen in Hillerød. Topped with a cork and a wire cradle the bottle gave a bit shot and good smoke when opened. Loose, frothy head over a slightly hazy, golden body. Spicy aroma of sweet fruits. Dry sweet fruity flavour with spiced hops and raw sugar. Some reminiscent of rum and also hints of tobacco. Hidden alcohol. Champagne-like in the mouth. Flavoursome (14.05.2009).
