Commercial Description:
In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we forge barley malt and hops from Germany, aromatic raw sugar from Mauritius and yeast from Belgium into our latest beer, Brooklyn Local 1. Behind the full golden color you'll find an alluring aroma, a dynamic complex of flavors. Belgian flair, Brooklyn fortitude and a dusting of our special yeast. To create this beer, we use the old technique of 100% bottle re-fermentation, a practice now rare even in Europe. It gives this beer a palate of unusual depth. Enjoy it locally or globally, as an aperitif or with your favorite dishes. It is particularly nice with spicy seafood and with fine cheeses.

Sample at February 27, 2009 beer club meeting. Semi-clear yellow with a very frothy white head. Very citrusy aroma. Flavor is spicy, but goes down easy. More tingly on the tongue than most real Belgians, almost like they used mineral water in the boil. Not a big fan...

75cl bottle. Light gold with a white head. yeasty and lightly fruity aroma, with a smooth malt sweetness. The flavor is a touch on the sweet side, with some yeasty flavor and light apple. Adding the yeast smoothes out the flavor, making it more rounded and malty. Medium-light bodied with a bit too much carbonation. Alright, but not possessing the complexity of better golden ales.

Stylish 750 ml bottle. Slightly cloudy golden color, huge rich foamy head. Spicy aroma with lemon, pepper and some alcohol. Full flavor with more fruit, spices, some yeast and a malty finish. Medium-full body, high carbonation. A very nice beer indeed.

Serving: Armored Car of a bottle here. You could drop this thing from a ten-story building and not have it shatter. I read once that this bottle is a work of art and I agree. Poured into a smallish snifter glass. A: Pours a hazy deep gold, with a huge frothy white head that doesn’t go anywhere. Bubbles rushing every which way. Excellent lacing. There aren’t just lace rings, this thing is leaving CHUNKS of lace stuck to the glass. S: Sour/sweet candy aroma right as you pop the cork, citrus, red grapes, malt, banana esters linger. It is begging me to drink it, but I don’t want my lips to ruin this perfect head of foam just yet. One more whiff...So complex. T: Sweet malt flavor up front, yeasty, fruity (tangerine), and a tad sour. Delicate finish reminds me of Hennepin, but not as bitter. M: Medium bodied. For 9% it really doesn’t show up. Just a slight tingle of carbonation. D: Very drinkable for 9% abv. I do not think the 750ml is going to be enough! I should have gotten more when I had the chance. Refreshing.

Great "plop" when opening the elegant bottle. Cloudy, golden beer with huge white and lasting head. Aroma is complex and great: flowers and fruits, peppery spiciness, yeast and coriander. Flavour: flowers, tangy, orange, and peppery spiciness. Slippery, "easy", nice carbonation and warming hint of alcohol makes this beer nice to drink. Brooklyn Local 1 is refreshing, complex and spicy beer.

Sampled at a beer and food pairing with Garritt Oliver. Poured yellow golden color with white head. Aroma was lemon, yeast, and spice. Medium mouthfeel. Flavors followed the nose and was very much in line with a typical strong belgian ale. Overall a nice brew.
