Commercial Description:
In Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we forge barley malt and hops from Germany, aromatic raw sugar from Mauritius and yeast from Belgium into our latest beer, Brooklyn Local 1. Behind the full golden color you'll find an alluring aroma, a dynamic complex of flavors. Belgian flair, Brooklyn fortitude and a dusting of our special yeast. To create this beer, we use the old technique of 100% bottle re-fermentation, a practice now rare even in Europe. It gives this beer a palate of unusual depth. Enjoy it locally or globally, as an aperitif or with your favorite dishes. It is particularly nice with spicy seafood and with fine cheeses.

I’ve been wanting to try Brooklyn Local 1 for quite a while now. I’ve noticed that its become more widely available and the price has dropped a dollar or two a bottle in recent months. Full bodied Belgian Strong Ale with alcohol sweetness, grainy mouthfeel and spiced finish. II should have tried Brooklyn Local 1 a year ago.

Poured a nice hazy orange with a decent thin white head. Aroma was very complex; a bit of hops, a bit of Belgian flair, some citrus, there was a lot going on here. Flavor was more of the same. I caught some orange juice notes, some Belgian undertones, a hint of hoppiness and something else I couldn’t quite pin down. Very unique and enjoyable flavor on this one. Good beer.

Poured a semi hazy golden color with a medium sized, white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, toasted dough, citrus fruits, light spices, and a bit of banana. Taste was sweeter, pils malt, some honey, citrus, light hops, and a little alcohol in the finish.

(750 ml bottle from Bootleggers, cellared for 8 mos. after purchase) Pours fairly cloudy gold/amber with two fingers of soft, fluffy off-white head. Aroma is sweet and fruity with some caramel and yeast. Mouthfeel is fairly smooth but a touch pebbly. Lightly sticky. Doesn’t have a particularly refined feel or that really nice Belgian bottle-conditioned fine-bubble carbonation. Fairly heavy weepy rings and sheets of lacing. Flavor is sweet and fruity not dissimilar to the Duvel I had last night but more dense. A little hot but not detracting. Sweetness, fruit, yeast and caramel. Fairly bitter towards finish. A bit heavy-handed but good.

Brown bottle, 1 pint 9.4 ounces, gift from Louise for my birthday, at L’autre oeil on July 18 2008; eye: golden, hazy, nice effervescence, no lacing; nose: yeast, banana, light spices (nutmeg), light grapefruit, light grain; mouth: creamy, light grain, short dry finale in malt with a good presence of yeast, lightly sweet, rather carbonated; overall: quite likable FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 1 pinte 9,4 onces, 9,0 %, cadeau de Louise pour ma fête, bue à L’autre œil le 18 juillet 2008; oeil : dorée, voilée, belle effervescence, pas de dentelle; nez : levure, banane, léger épices (muscade), léger pamplemousse, léger grain; bouche : crémeuse, léger grain, finale courte crémeuse en malt avec une bonne présence de levure, légèrement sucrée, plutôt carbonatée; en résumé : bien aimé

Pours a murky yellow gold into the glass with a white head that has some nice lacing. Aroma is slightly fruity with hints of syrup. Flavor is slightly sweet with a nice yeastiness to it and some banana notes. Smooth across the tongue with very subtle alcohol in the finish

This beer seems to be trying to emulate the Belgians, but it falls a little short. The flavor is crisp and light. It is a very subdued banana yeast. Smooth.

A well made but unexpectedly strange brew. Perhaps slightly more inspiring than a typical 10% strong beer, but still has strange combination of very alchoholic taste in a whit beer body. Not really my favorite kind of beer.
