Big, foamy, rocky head. So-so aroma with a little skank. Rich, herbal flavor with some citrus. The honey and wildflowers were not that noticeable. Alcohol warmth in the finish. Not bad, but a little disappointing - the bottle may have been a little off.

Pours dark brown with ruby hues. Notes of bubble gum, dates, brown sugar, citrus, nicely estery with some toasted malt balance. Full bodied with lively carbonation. Another nice brew from Brooklyn and a good sequel to Local 1.

Presentation: It was poured from a 1 pint, 9.4oc brown corked and caged bottle into a tulip glass. The number 1069 is printed on the back label. I am not sure if that is a bottle number, batch number or a date. Appearance: The body is almost opaque and has a dark murky brown color with deep crimson highlights. Near the edges of the glass there are some streams of fine carbonation rushing to the surface. The pour produced a nice tall, thick and foamy head. It slowly fades down to a thin cap that hangs on till the last sip. Smell: Its aroma has full nose of dark sweet malt, funky yeast, spice and a hint of honey and hops. Taste/Mouth: The flavor has a sweet dark malty base with some pleasant sweet honey, tart cherry and other dark estery fruit notes. Funky yeast, mild alcohol and some light spicy notes and add even more complexity. In the finish the hops pop out and add some mild bitterness. The texture is smooth and mellow with soft yet active carbonation. Notes: Another great Belgian ale from the Brooklyn Brewery.

750ml bottle 8/4/09 (Courtesy of BevMo-Torrance)-Pours a dark brown with a small off white head. Aroma of malt, hops, caramel, yeast, and sligth hops. Taste of the same with this full bodied brew having some lively carbonation as well as some orange. Neither the orange or honey play a prominent role in this brew. Hides ABV very well. Great tasting.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a large, fizzy brown head, lasting with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, toffee, cookie), light hop (herbs), average yeast (earth, leaves) with notes of dates, alcohol, honey, and figs. Full bodied, gritty texture, lively carbonation, and an astringent finish. Long duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness.

Not that complex. Gently frothy. Rich caramel color, decent head. Good caramel flavors like you’d get in the better English beers, but undistinguished. Bottle shared at RBSG 2009 grand tasting.

Opaque chestnut with a dense tan head. Aroma is figgy with brown sugar, caramel and ginger. Taste is the same, with minimal alcohol apparent. Basically a ramped-up dubbel with some nice accents. $10/12oz

Local 1 is Cain, and Local 2 is Abel. Honeyed, sweet, good, light and fruity. Amazing (and dangerously) drinkable for a nine percent beer. The balance of caramel malts and honey is precious to the nose, while the lemon and orange fruits are juicy. The honey isn’t the star here; it just elevates the rest of the beer to a special level. I love both the Locals, and they play well off one another to make a pair of beers that bring separate contributions to the table. A wonderful cheese beer from Garrett Oliver.
