Nice, smooth flavor, hops comes through but is not overpowering. Very smooth beer in my opinion, alcohol is well masked (bottle shows 10.1%). Very drinkable as far as barleywines go, and one of the better barleywines I’ve had, in my wheelhouse. djd07 (755), Houston, Texas, USA

Pours a clear copper amber with a small white head that diminishes quickly to nothing leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is citrus and sugary fruit. Medium mouthfeel with a sugary fruit flavor and alcohol present but not too overpowering. A good barleywine from Brooklyn. altonbrownd (1964), Amsterdam, Netherlands

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 13, 2009 09 Bottle. Light banana and spice esters on top of cherries, strawberries, toffee, and chocolate. A touch of alcohol and mild hop aroma as well. Ruby in the right light with an inch of thick white foam and very heavy lacing. Opens sweet and bready before the alcohol shows up, clean and not hot but definitely noticeable. Fruit notes come in next, heavily dominated by cherries and strawberries, followed by a bit more alcohol and then finishing caramelly-sweet. Alcohol lingers. Palate is smooth and enjoyable with low carbonation. Nicely balanced with a little too much alcohol presence. CUJO (379), Brooklyn, New York, USA

The pour was a light amber leaving a fluffy dry head. The aroma suggested bright qualities, even some citrus. The taste was really fantastic, unexpected. Very complex, again very light which seems out of character for the style, however I found it to be very inviting. The alcohol does wonders for the body on a cold day... warming and soothing... joeneugs (371), Livermore, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 12, 2009 From the bottle, both an 07 and 06 vintage. It pours amber with an orange head. Remarkably clear after the head of foam settles. The aroma is slightly smoky with lots of fruit. Apple, pear, plum, and orange for a slight hoppy kick. The flavor is fruity and spicy with a hard candy like sweetness. Caramel flavors round it out, but an alcoholic kick and some biting hops in the finish with a slight toasted quality keep it from being a smooth beer. Not too thick or sweet. The 06 vintage was noticeably smoother than the 07. I’m sure it would age well for at least 4 or 5 more years. halfonit (484), Fall River, Massachusetts, USA
