Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

Bottle poured a nice amber color with a sweet fruity smell that takes me to days of walking through orchards in the summertime as a child. Tastes very smooth with complex flavors of fruit and a nice tart hop aftertaste. Laces well as you drink it and has a medium mouthfeel. Nice barley wine.

Not my favorite style but this was a nice barley wine. Dark reddish amber, tiny head. Taste of sugar, caramel, and malt, alcohol, syrupy mouth saved by good carbonation, long hoppy finish.

Bottle @ Tre Små Rum, Gothenburg. Clear amber/reddish with quite small head. Fruity, caramel aroma. Quite sweet taste of fruit and caramel. Supprisinly thin taste for being such a strong beer. Not the taste sensation I was hoping for.

bottles from emacgee and The_Epeeist. Thanks!
Pours semi clear dark maroon with a medium sized lasting light beige head. Smell is alcohol, and sweaty, dirty, B.O. like malt. Odd, and unappealing, really. Taste is rich, strong and moderately alcoholic with toasty malt. Sweaty, mustiness again, and slightly syrupy with a bubbly mouthfeel. Not very appealing flavorwise, and boring and bland at the same time. I would not recoment this barely wine at all.

Bottle. 2007 Vintage. Copper beer with a light tan head. Caramel, light fruit, light nut, light sherry aroma. Sherry flavor with caramel, citrus, and pine backing and a bit of darker malts. Medium-plus bodied. Lingering caramel, slight darker fruits and Northwest hops. Would develop into something very nice with time.

This is a pretty good barleywine, but it’s high alcohol could be hidden better. The hops, sweet and fruity malts, and citrus make it a flavorful, good beer.
