Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Monster Ale is a classic barley wine, a style of ale originally brewed by the butlers to the English and American aristocracy. It is brewed from three mashes of heirloom British malt and spiced with aromatic American Willamette, Cascade and Fuggle hops.

After four months of aging, it has a magnificent burnished copper color, an aroma redolent of sherry, citrusy hops and fruit, a soft, warming, complex palate, a spiritous finish, and a strength of 10.8%.

It is vivacious when young, but will age gracefully for many years, becoming more complex over time.

Food Matches

Brooklyn Monster Ale is a fine accompaniment to cheeses, ice cream, flourless cakes, crème brulee and good cigars.

This beer is definitly a monster of barleywine. It has a rich aroma and a dark amber color to it. The nose is nice and floral with some hints of malt, very basic, but strong. The flavor is full of caramel malt and citrus hops that bite your tounge. The booze is not was well hidden or masked as your would think there is definitlely a presance of it in this brew. Overall it is a monster beer and has a nice balance of carbonation and malt and hops. You drink a six pack of these and your in for a killer time, one that you wont regret but your liver will hate you for sure.

12oz bottle ’08, from Swolf3, thanks Wolf.
Medium copper pour, very clear, kind of an off-white head. Smell alot of hops up front, slight caramel anf some fruitiness. Very hoppy flavor as well, pretty much overpowers everything else, still quite good, would like to get some more for cellaring.

Overall Impression: Amber color, thin head, and a nice mouthfeel. Lots of strong, highly prevalent flavors that mix well together.

Thanks to JoeMcPhee for hooking me up with this brew. Crushed with Jakebra. A very nice barley wine. Very subtle fruitiness and bitterness. A little thin-bodied, but it’s just a plain good beer. Easy to drink, a little boozy, but overall hardly anything to not like.

2007 Bottle. Pretty delicious stuff for 10.8%. Not overly complex and definately some booze flavor in it.. but some how its very easy drinking and enjoyable. Tastes of alcohol, some sourness, syrupy malts, brown sugar, and minerals. pretty nice.

[Bottle] Pours red with a good beige head. Aroma is strong of alcohol, nuttiness, and strawberry jam. Something medicinal is also in there that is off-putting for me. I know this is a fairly fresh bottle, but it was too hot for me in the taste. A little sweetness shows through as well, along with solid malt in the finish. Good mouthfeel. My biggest complaint with this is the out-of-control alcohol in the taste, and hopefully that would die down with some age. I’ll try to get around to rating an aged bottle at some point to see if there is improvement.

Bottle. Pours an amber color wtih a smallish tan head. Aroma is sweet and hoppy. I certainly could smell the sherry in this one along with some woody notes and some caramel and fruit. Flavor was really well balanced. The hops played well with the caramel, dark fruit and brown sugar notes. Good mouthfeel. A very easy to drink beer and the ABV could sneak up on you big time!
