Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Summer Ale is a modern rendition of the "Light Dinner Ales" brewed in England throughout the 1800's right up until the 1940's. They were also called "luncheon ales" or even "family ales", because they were refreshing and flavorful without being too heavy. We brew our Brooklyn Summer Ale from premium English barley malt, which gives this light-bodied golden beer a fresh bready flavor. German and American hops lend a light, crisp bitterness and a citrus/floral aroma resulting in a beer with a very sunny disposition. FOOD PAIRING Excellent with salads, seafood, quiches, and lightly spicy dishes. It's also great at a brunch. SPECS Style: English Style Light Dinner Ale Malts: Two Row British Malts Hops: German Perle and American Cascade, Fuggle, and Amarillo Alcohol: 4.5% by volume Original Gravity: 11 Plato

Tap at Turkey’s Nest: Hazy golden pour with a thin creamy white head. Aroma is some wonder bread along with a sweet touch of (marzipan?) Fizzy light body with a grainy, bland flavor. Very light with some paper and white bread notes. A bit sharp & doughy with little bitterness. Pretty boring.

I’ve heard a lot about Brooklyn Brewery’s offerings, so I bought a few singles today; this was my first I tried. Pours a clear, medium gold with slight head. Aroma is bready with some definite citrus notes thrown in there. Taste is bready with some citrus up front with a surprising amount of hops towards the back for a Golden Ale, though the flavor is quite nice. Mouthfeel is a little thin, but this is a tasty, extremely drinkable beer.

12 oz bottle at 515 in Santa Cruz. Poured into a pilsener glass. Clear gold with a modest white froth that leaves some scattered lacing. Aromas of fresh bread, grass, and light citrus. Flavor is doughy and biscuity with a soft Cascade tartness. Just a touch of bitterness. Great balance, full-flavored while maintaining lightness. Mouthfeel is smooth and crisp with a clean finish. Ridiculously easy to drink. A great thirst-quencher, one of the best summer ales there is.

Pours a very pale piss yellow. Thin fizzy white head. The nose is sweet, malty, light grassy hops, kind of funky, some corn and cardboard. The flavor was sweet and skunky, cardboard, some grassy hops, corn. Thin sweet mouthfeel with a mild carbonation.

From bottle. Very mild pilsner-pale malt aroma, light sweetness, with some muted beany hop character. Dark golden clear with some chill haze, topped with a white foamy lacing head. Medium watery body with high carbonation. Starts with a bit of malt sweetness, light rice and some oxidation. Otherwise, fairly clean throughout and refreshing, ending with some mild hop bitterness and a touch of sweetness. After is clean. Nice summer quaff.

12oz bottle. Nice golden color with good carbonation. Aroma is very simple some citrus but much faded since I bought it fresh a month ago. Pretty full for a summer ale but none the less refreshing on a warmer day. Bit of hop, but then again there was more when I had it last. Not Brooklyn’s best offering but a solid summer brew when fresher.
