Sample @ BBF Night of the Funk. Pours a hazy gold with a thin white head. Aroma is oak, Belgian yeast, a bit of brett, and sweetness that I can’t quite place. Taste is Belgian yeast up front, with a candi sugar sweetness that fights with the oak and the brett at the end. It’s a very unique take on the solid Local 1 - and I liked it.

( 750ml bottle ) Pours a lightly hazy golden body with a medium white head. Aroma of mustiness, horseblanket, citrus peel, vanilla, oak, and sweet tarts. Flavor of nuts, citrus, herbs, bourbon, and funkiness with a moderately dry finish.

Thanks to Garrett Oliver for bringing these to St. Stephen’s Green in Philly during a recent beer dinner. Pours a hazy dark golden orange with lighter golden burnt orange hues when held to a light source and a two finger frothy off-white head that slowly settles into a lasting ring. Sporadic spots of lacing are left behind. Slightly funky, dry earthy brett aroma with lots of estery Belgian yeast producing some nice crisp golden fruit notes. Hints of slight barnyard funk, apple, cherry, strawberry and cream, pear and subtle peppery spice. Smells like a slightly bretty funky tripel with a nice bit of bready yeast and estery fruit notes. Dry earthy, funky medium body with a nice amount of tartness up front and a bretty funk dryness thatlingers throughout over a estery Belgian yeast body with crisp fruit notes into a subtle dry finish with slight alcohol warmth. Lots of estery fruit notes and spicy peppery notes. Alcohol presence is noticeable but not too much so, making this very drinkable. The brett character is prominent enough to add a delicious earthy funkiness but it’s not too sour, acidic or overpowering and you can still taste the flavors of the original beer.

750ml Bottle: Aroma of Brett, oak, and bourbon. Poured amber/gold in color with a small, white head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of bourbon, oak, and Brett. Medium body. Dry texture. Average to lively carbonation. Bourbon, Brett, and oak finish is dry. Tons of Brett throughout. 9%ABV is noticeable from the bourbon but not hot or overwhelming.

Pouring at the Night of the Funk event in Boston. Pours a hazy yellow with a thin white head. Caramel, smoke and cotton candy. Light bodied. Nothing overly remarkable or memorable, but no glaring flaws either.

Sample at NotF. Pours a cloudy golden color with a small white head. Nose is sour and toasty. Palate is full and fizzy. Flavors of light spices like coriander and almost cinnamon.

Bottle sample poured by Garrett Oliver at The Denver Rare Beer Tasting event during GABF week on 9/25/09. pours a hazy yellow with a white head... wonderful sour funky nose... light citrus from the nose through the body... big round presence over the tongue... some more barnyard flavors float throughout while the bourbon barrel takes a back seat...

lovely sour smell. not too pungent. bright alcohol taste. spices really pack a wallop. a lot of competing flavors that still work well together.
