And like older things, it could be said, “that it ain’t like that anymore.” Brooklyner Keller Helles is a old fashioned, old world classic lager. Imagine Victory Lager with just a bit more refinement, more subtle hop flavor; lots of time and love went into this. A great alternative to just about every other “default” beer, such as Stella. A must have. mkobes (2104), paramus, New Jersey, USA

Grassy, fresh hops balance perfectly with the sweet malts. I love that Barcade seems to tap the Brewmaster Reserve stuff almost the minute it arrives. Even more amazingly, the bartender at the bar poured the beer wth a head. Why are the hipster dufusses in Brooklyn so fuckin dumb that they demand a beer that loos like a glass of piss? Props to Brooklyn for making a great beer and to whichever bartender at Barcade that served it to me. scraff (1954), Baltimore, Maryland, USA

Fruity floral aromas lay on soft peppery tea and orange zest-like notes. Nutty earth and grassy floral flavors round to just a hint of back end breadiness. Medium bodied and crisp with soft carbonation. Very well done and quite tasty... tomthompson89 (1489), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 5, 2008 A draft only offering from the Brewmasters Reserve from Brooklyn Brewery in New York, the Keller Helles does not disappoint. An amazingly rich, complex and yet at its heart light and easily quaffable beer style, the Keller Helles when brewed properly truly shines. A perfect summer refresher, though I could enjoy it anytime of the year.
I had mine on draft at Coasters Pub and it was definitely a treat. After ogling the beer taps and beer bottle menu, my Keller Helles arrived bright and practically bubbling over as if to catch my attention and focus on her, not the menu. I was none too happy to oblige, and setting down the menu set to work taking in all her curves, colors, aromas, and her inviting body. The body was a straw yellow and lightly cloudy. Her thick head which was the first to catch my eye faded slowly into a fairly permanent pillow on top. Hints of lemon and citric esters in the nose with a prevalent aroma of chewy fresh sour yeast and soft bananas. Already my mouth is watering and I have yet to even take a quaff. In enviable anticipation, I partake of her liquid depths and am not disappointed. A slightly bready, yeasty chewy body gives way to fresh sourdough and banana bread, brown spices, and a touch of lemon in the finish. Bright and cleansing is her palate, a soft lingering mouthfeel of dough lightly coats the inside of my mouth. From start to finish, there is a steady stream of bubbles rushing from the bottom of my glass to the top and bursting in joy. As I quaff the last of my Keller Helles from Brooklyn Brewery, I am left with visions of fresh banana bread, warm brown spices (brown sugar), and a hint of lemon zest.
An excellent American interpretation of the German beer style, Keller Helles. rightfully so, as I quaff my Keller Helles, though she be American, I am embraced with visions of Germany in all her natural splendor, my elbows resting on an old wooden bar, as a cute fraulein brings me a fresh mug of Brooklyn Keller Helles. Well done. JoeMcPhee (5025), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 7, 2008 First off, I can’t believe the low ratings for this. Tap at Barcade. Very pale golden-coloured beer with a thick sticky white head. Aroma is great, fresh and bready with a lovely light citrus/zesty hallertauer/tettnanger hops over a very crisp pilsner malt base. Flavour is very simple but perfectly balanced, crisp European pilsner malt with a lightly minerally backnote of bitterness. There is enough hop aroma is the nose to invite you in but the low bitterness lets the crisp maltiness also shine through. Clean crisp bitterness with a lightly grassy flavour on the back... man, this beer in fantastic. They’ve nailed the style and on a muggy New York evening, I can’t think of anything I’d rather have. In fact, I’m going to have another. Dickinsonbeer (3497), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 8, 2008 Tap at Barcade. Pours a very hazy murky bright golden yellow with a thin tich white head with great lace. Aroma was doughy, pils malt, nice earthy and spicy hops with just a touch of grass, and unfortunately a touch of sulfur as well. Sulfer is still in the flavor as well, but there is lots going on to cover it up- more doughy crackery pils, fresh baked bread, awesome fresh green hops- hallertauer/tettnang spicyness and a great smooth bitter finish. Crisp and refreshing on a hot day like yesterday.
