Ungstrup (14754), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 28, 2008 GABF 2007. A hazy yellow beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet and very spicy - especially coriander, but also with a strong note of alcohol - very much like Achouffes Double IPA. The flavor is very sweet with strong notes of wheat and coriander, leading to a dry wheaty finish. The alcohol warms the cheeks. Magjayran (1379), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jul 27, 2008 Hazy yellow/orange color with a huge and dense white head. Strong presence of tangerines in the aroma. Very fruity, almost too much. Lots of banana, tangerine, and clove. The tangerine being the #1 thing I pick up. Lively mouthfeel. Good beer. Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Jul 27, 2008 Hazy beige with fluffy 2cm head. Incredibly appetizing aroma - yeasty, spicy, lemon, melon, pear...gorgeous. Lemony, marshmallowy body with firm pale maltiness and pepper alcohol. Light clove and nutmeg. Rich, but refreshing, Very complex. A fantastic take on the style. ksurkin (355), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Jul 26, 2008 bomber from G&G after trading kevin an oak aged yeti. pours a cloudy, golden orange with a soft, thick white head. aroma is huge, very refreshing with hints of orange, banana, pumpkin spice, and floral hops. flavor is absolutely unique as far as my tasting has gone. honestly tastes like a great heffe mixed with a great IPA, elementary, i know. the hops stand out up front, but the bitterness is subdued by the wheat and citrus flavors of the heffe. Hints of orange, lemon zest, and pine follow on the back end. mouthfeel is slightly thick, good carbonation, and very easy to drink despite the 8.5%. overall, and outstanding beer from two class breweries. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Jul 26, 2008 Bottle - 750mL corked and caged. Pricey bottle as well - a hefty $15! Golden auburn pour. Tall, dense, sticky white head. Nose is hoppy with fresh hop notes, pine, wheat, banana, bubblegum, and citrus. Lots of yeast as well. Taste is hoppy but wheaty and yeasty with softer banana, stronger lemon and citrus notes, spices, lighter candy, hint of bubblegum, and some sweet malt notes. Body is light-medium to medium with moderate carbonation. Some dryness and a lingering bitterness to this one. The finish draws out the citrus and hops much more than a standard weizen bock. Lots of yeast, wheat, pine, citrus, candy, sweet malts, hint of toffee, spices and lemon peel. Very tasty! jlf278 (250), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 22, 2008 Bottle. Was really looking forward to this one - two of my favorite breweries and one of my favorites styles. Things started off well with a great head and not too dark body that let you see all the beautfiul swirling underneath. Aroma was pretty good, fruity and sugary, but not too strong. Flavor is a bit drier than I’d like, with a harshness in the back from the alcohol, oh well. I guess I should try this one on tap. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jul 21, 2008 Updated: Jan 17, 2009Initial tropical fruit and citrus hop notes are very strong but once that blows off, the yeasty phenolics of clove and banana are nicely apparent in the aroma. Clear and very bubbly deep orange-blonde body is topped by a generous and constantly replenishing, fine bubbled white head that sticks to the sides of the glass. Hop flavours of tropical fruit are strong and blend in with the banana and spice notes but there is also a very pleasant underlying pastry-dough-like sweetness. Bitterness is quite pronounced but not at all over the top. Medium-light body has very strong bubbly effervescence that lasts throughout. Very refreshing on an uncharacteristically hot and humid Vancouver afternoon. I could see this really hitting the spot in the muggy summer months in the North-East. Weizen glass. Fridge temperature. Bottle (Brewery Creek, Jun-08). Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 21, 2008 750 ml bottle. Pours a nice cloudy (had to swirl the bottle kinda hard) yellowish straw with a nice thick white head- creamy bubbles mixed with soapy larger bubbles and a soapy diminishing lace. Aroma is moderately lemony soapy some anise, spicy phenolics- vanilla, and light clove, some doughy wehat notes. Big wheaty malt flavor with some light tropical fruitiness and pineapple, clove spices, earthy floral hops, vanilla, and some lemony orangey zest in the end. Smooth, medium to big mouthfeel, but becomes a bit soapy and slick as it warms but overall this is just a good unique beer. I like this one quite a bit more than the German version.
